One day I just woke up and didn’t want to drink anymore. AA meetings made me want to drink

Only took 37 years and no idea how many meetings to leave AA. End of story.

I too, over stayed my time in Alcoholics Anonymous. The best thing I did was to quit drinking, the worst thing I did was stay in AA as long as I did. My time after severing ties has proven that.

2 years in. Left and word on the street is I’m out drinking/using again.
Glad you got out. Go live and be free!

AA has only a 12%-15% success rate. Yet, people are constantly forced to do a 12 step program when they get into trouble with the law. It's like the court sets the person up for failure again to gain more money.

Steppers get a little upset when people leave and don't die, as evidenced by the comment section, yet I know several ex-steppers who are just fine. Some have a couple of decades without a relapse... or a meeting.

You are what you allow yourself to be, take responsibility for yourself. People are too dependent on external things (AA) to form their identities and that can lead to addiction. We think if we drink, we can take the edge off. But when we get rid of the edge, we get rid of the information to honour ourselves.

Tried to show this to a brainwashed AA friend; totally rejected any opposition to AA. Very sad.

AA is not a cult in my very own humble opinion. It is a community always that is there with open arms and fellow crazies like you and me... that get it and look at you on the same level. It is beautiful and has done wonders for many ppl including myself! Im saddened to hear that you have some resentments against AA and have not had good experiences!!

Yeah, use this method it'll only cost you from $200 to $2500.

The gall to slam a cult on an advertisement for your very own cult 😂

How's things since you left AA? Still happy and sober?

Full of gratitude, I see! But the door is always open at AA, your choice! Takers or not real alcoholics are the ones that usually walk away, not the contributors!
