My shape isn between a rectangle an an hourglass. My waist is defined, but mot greatly so, since menopause. The best definition for a defined waist that I’ve come across is that it’s 25% or more, smaller than the hips. Mine is more like 20% smaller these days, even though I’m at my ideal weight, this ratio never changes. I always tuck in all my tops, all the way around and wear belts or styles with defined waists. I’m very much a dress/skirt wearer, I hate wearing trousers or jeans because I just can’t get a decent fit. The waists are always too tight for the size I need for my narrow hips and skinny thighs. I don’t usually wear contrasting-color belts, I prefer matching them to my dress color. I want shaping, but not extra focus on my only somewhat defined shape.

How would you style a woman who is a rectangle and who also is short waisted?

I hate wearing a belt - it just emphasises the thick waist. V neck, yes, peplum, yes, fit and flare, 100%. But belting is a no from me.

You must be the proprietor of ADA belts. I saw some of your beautiful belts on an influencer video once, but couldn’t remember the brand name. I will definitely check out your shopping site, glad I came across your video. I’m interested in narrower leather belts, I’m very short-waisted, and petite, so there’s not much vertical space in my torso. I disagree on one thing you said, the Rectangle isn’t the most common shape, the Pear Shape is the most common for non-obese, non-overweight women. It’s also been the ideal shape for much of history, as I found in my informal survey of ancient and medieval art. It’s only the 20th C. that began idealizing the hourglass. Here in the US, the Apple Shape is becoming the most common because the of the unfortunate fattening of our population. The average size for US women is now 16, with an average height of only 5’4”. If that’s not obese, it’s pretty close to it. I’m glad fat-shaming is no longer acceptable, but I do worry about the health effects, they’re very negative, including not just physical, but mental ill-effects like depression and low self-esteem.

If 80% of women have this shape, then why are 100% of pants sized with a 10" difference in the measurement of the waist and hips? NO women's pants have ever fit me.

I’ve read in so many places that the majority of women have the pear shape.
