How Harris' VP pick could impact the presidential map

As Vice President Kamala Harris looks for a running mate, one consideration is how a vice presidential candidate might affect the presidential map. After former President Donald Trump picked Ohio Sen. JD Vance, there was speculation about whether he might appeal to voters in the Midwest. CBS News executive director of elections and surveys Anthony Salvanto examines what Harris' map could look like.

Why is it so hard for people to understand? Both her paternal grandparents identify as Black, making her father Black, making her half Black. In jamaica, just like the USA there are light skinned Black people and Dark skinned Black people. Remember they also are descendants of slavery. If she is half Black Jamaican by blood ancestry then how does that equate to her not being Black at all? She can trace her ancestry to Black Africa. She's half Black. I'm so damned tired of seeing Black people running to repeat Trumps talking points, as if they are truth. Just because we are mixed doesn't diminsh our ancestry. My Mom is Korean, so does that diminish my Blackness? And if she was to deny her Blackness and say she's east indian only everyone would be dragging her because she's denying her Blackness. Let's not forget how everyone was dragging Amber Rose. My point is this. Let muxed people self identify. And if people change, allow them a chance to prove they have changed because I hope that if you make mistakes people would give you grace. I just find it crazy how people of mixed ancestry can't win with the rest of the Black community, if we say we are Black and l8ve our people folks want to reject us and push us out, then when some if us say they don't identify with their Black side either because they were raised in another country, were adopted, were raised by one parent only, one parent/family was abusive so they're traumatized, or whatever reason, y'all want to be in your feelings and want to attack! My point is you guys don't know and never got to know many of us, and are speaking off some type of resentment, and it's wrong. If you don't like Harris fine, but to attack her Black identity is fukked up. You guys wont move to remove fully Black people who do even more damage to our community such as Clarence Thomas! But focus on her! A lot of us are tired of it. We want our people to win, and taring eachother down all because some of us don't have two black parents is stupid as hell.

Pete Buttigieg is the closest thing to a superhero the Democratic Party has! Of the remaining candidates, he's definitely Harris' wisest pick for VP. By far the best communicator, he refuses to be bullied by today's ill-willed Republicans -- without ever needing to raise his voice or resort to exaggeration. Buttigieg actually thrives in debates and interviews, and he always comes prepared with verified facts and figures, simple analogies, and quick responses -- even when he's being grilled by Congress or far-right news hosts. It's pure joy to watch him not only win his opponents over, but put THEM in on defence! After a solid education at Harvard (degrees in History and Literature) and as a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford (Politics, Economics, and Philosophy), he worked as a highly paid management consultant at McKinsey & Co. and could be earning much more money than he does. But his devotion to our country led him to public service where he knew he could make a greater difference. And what a patriot! He served in our military as a Naval intelligence officer. His military experience and deep knowledge of history, economics, and politics uniquely position him to support Harris in international affairs. He entered politics as a transformational mayor of South Bend, Indiana, completely changing the trajectory of a crumbling city by investing in urban development and infrastructure, increasing its employment rate, and much more. His impressive accomplishments in the corporate world, as an intelligence officer in the Navy, as a transformative mayor, as a father, and within the Biden-Harris administration make him a more qualified VP than a person decades older. A Harris--Buttigieg ticket will be unbeatable and give Democrats the landslide victory they need to send Trump packing!
