The examples in this video are just two of many documented representations of people who exist outside the gender binary, and have done for thousands of years.

There are other examples throughout history. The idea of the gender binary (and just two genders) is largely a modern and western construct, which has then spread across the world with colonisation and colonialism.

This video is intended as a simple reminder that people who do not conform to modern day gender concepts are not new, and definitely not a trend. This rhetoric is harmful and designed to erase people’s identity.

Important note: Two Spirt is now a term used within some indigenous communities, encompassing cultural, spiritual, sexual and gender identity. The term reflects complex Indigenous understandings of gender roles, spirituality, and the long history of sexual and gender diversity in those cultures. It is a term solely to be used by Native American and Indigenous people.

THANK YOU! My *ex* friends were strict Christian’s and kept trying to convince me that I was only bisexual because of the people around me. They would say things like “I’m sorry (my name) but I really think you’re only like this because of (enter girlfriend’s name)” and I would just be there nodding politely. We had multiple arguments and they were always so condescending. I am sending them this video right after I unblock them and then reblocking them after it goes through ❤
