I’m 40ish and my parents just didn’t know enough to plan for long term care. They were able to handle retirement finances just fine but when they got sick and medically needy it fell to me cuz they didn’t have the kind of money that afforded them assistance like that. My dad passed away and then my moms sister passed and left her enough money she can afford assisted living. Make a plan if you can. It’s super important for your sake as well as your family. It was the hardest five years I’ve ever had. I’m looking into long term care insurance now for myself while it’s cheaper so I have options for myself. As well as my investments.

This is literally my grandma who lives with me, gave up on working like 15-20 years ago relies on all of us to take care of her and we do it… it’s rough cause as much as I would love to tell her she’s been irresponsible but the damage is done, she will never work again and couldn’t if she tried she just sits all day and watches tv and guilt trips everyone in the family to take care of her or pay for her to go on vacations only to have her sit down in the cafe or whatever till she gets too hot and wants to go home while everyone else is wanting to go and do things

Wish someone told my parents not to take out of their 401ks at 30 years old. Or to put more than 3% into the 401ks. Their first grandchild is on the way and my mom talks about wanting to watch the kid…… you’re 55 and literally 15 years away from retirement still because of your actions.
