What drives society's understanding of right and wrong? In this thought-provoking talk, futurist Juan Enriquez offers a historical outlook on what humanity once deemed acceptable -- from human sacrifice and public executions to slavery and eating meat -- and makes a surprising case that exponential advances in technology leads to more ethical behavior.

Three words: humility, responsibility, and forgiveness. And be very careful with forgiveness because too much of it becomes permissiveness.

"When you judge the past, your ancestors, your forefathers, do so with a little bit more humility, because perhaps if you'd been educated in that time, if you'd lived in that time, you would've been done a lot of things wrong.
Not because they're right.
Not because we don't see they're wrong today, but simply because our notions, our understanding of right and wrong change across time."

I think the most important realization Ive had so far is "you don't know what you don't know".
That if anything demand a sense of humility. It is as true for me, as it is for you and everyone else. Judging gets us nowhere.

This TED talk came at such a timely hour for me. I think many of us are facing dilemmas in cancel culture as we see the face of communication change with the shifting attitudes of new generations expecting answers and replies within seconds.

If we can define ourselves as being humble and forgiving, help others develop ways of thinking that allow them to become more humble and forgiving so that we have a society that can be described as both humble and forgiving, then we will have left the world a better place for our descendants. All this happens through right relationships with one another and in knowing your own self as well.

Excellent video ! The world is changing exponentially so we can't lock ourselves with some absolute right and wrong but we need to be more open-minded, humble and forgiving.

There are a lot of people who need to learn to forgive others in today's world especially for misunderstandings and mistakes.

I agree except that you're missing ONE key problem in your analysis. All of these social media sites are designed to drive engagement above everything else. If the website design remains the same then this kind of trench warfare will continue. Whatever they need to do to get consumers to keep using their product they will do. It doesn't matter how positive or negative the consequences.

That's why we dragged ourselves out of the dark ages. The value of the individual. We're heading back down that hole through identity politics.
