This is Diwali in India?!

We were in Mumbai, India for Diwali (2022) and were totally shocked by this festival! We tried to research what to do in Mumbai for Diwali and had such a hard time figuring out where we should go for the best experience of this very important celebration. Some Mumbaikars suggested we visit Marine Drive and Shivaji Park for Diwali, and these suggestions turned out to be incredible!

We really didn't know what to expect from Diwali (or Deepavali as we have learned it is also called), but it certainly wasn't this. We joining a few thousand people on Marine Drive to watch the sunset and see the Mumbai skyline come to life in the dark before having our first experience with some very intense and unexpected firecrackers. After a ride on the famous Mumbai train line we shared some sweets with local shop owners creating rangolis before arriving at the incredible Shivaji Park! We couldn't believe our eyes when we arrived to Shivaji Park. We have never seen so many fireworks in our lives!

We feel so lucky to have been in India for Diwali to better understand how important this festival is for so many people around the world. As foreigners, celebrating Indian festivals is a dream come true for us so we can learn more about the meaning behind them and get a chance to meet local people. We definitely recommend that all travelers celebrate Diwali in India at some point in their lives!

The Diwali fireworks in Mumbai gave us a few heart attacks, but they also made for a very memorable day. The people in Mumbai were so friendly and excited to share their Diwali celebrations with us and we are so grateful for this. As foreigners in India, it can be difficult to celebrate festivals like Diwali, but the people of Mumbai made sure we had a great time!

If you are watching our videos in the order they are uploaded, you may be a bit confused about how we got to Mumbai when our previous video was in Delhi! We are uploading this video out of order because we want to upload it as close to Diwali as possible so we can show the beauty of this festival while the excitement of Diwali is still in the air! But don't worry, our next video picks up where we left off back in Delhi!

This is exactly how I felt when I first witnessed Pooram festival in Kerala. Sidenote- I am an Indian and someone who’s pretty used to Diwali. But Pooram fireworks was ear shattering and heart stoppingly loud

Now that you've experienced Diwali in India, you must visit during "Holi" too, to see the festival of Colors. It's crazy. You can plan on visiting Mathura, Vrindavan and other parts.

One of the best vlogs I have seen till now on Deepawali ( Deep=Light, awali= row = Row of lights) . Celebration of Deepawali originated in ancient times when Lord Rama returned to his Kingdom (Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh State) after conquering and vanquishing the Demon King Ravana in Lanka. Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya on one of the darkest nights of winter and people of Ayodhya welcomed him with Deeps, rather row of lights and thus the origin of the word Deepawali- which has got corrupted to its shorter version of Diwali.. Other religions celebrate it for various reasons but the core philoposphy is that which is narrated in the epic book Ramayana . If you have time while in Delhi, you can go to Ayodhya and Varanasi and see the essence of HIndusim reflected in day to day lives of people there. Still I am very happy you guys got the profound Immersive effect of Deepawali in Mumbai and the modern day lighting of electrical lights has taken it to a new level. LIke you said- the fireworks where you are participants is way more enjoyable and exciting than what you found in Canada - still one has to be careful of wayward rockets or misfiring crackers which cause injury . .. Thanks for huge smiles you had - the vlog was one very interesting enjoyment for me sitting in Delhi !!!

Rule that should follow in India - If someone is running to one's direction you probably will run the same 🤣

I think you would experience Diwali in a better way with a Hindu family..
Diwali includes Laxmi pooja, faral distribution, bhaidooj, candle / diya lightings, colorful rangoli etc etc

Diwali isn't just a festival of fireworks. It is a multidimensional celebration. Outside you see crackers, when you visit homes you'll see diyas, poojas, rangolis, great food, sweets, and so much more. Everywhere it's different.

Just for caution, if you plan to cover Holi Festival anytime in future, experience it with a known Local Indian group. Sometimes Holi is a free pass for hooligans/Anti-Social elements to do anything.
So if you do plan, plan to celebrate with known Indian circle. You'll enjoy it a lot :)
