This is actually an excellent tip Tony. I create an entire portfolio with cruise documents inclusive of receipt of payment for the cruise. I have witnessed a family refused boarding because of a system glitch. I also laminate my boarding pass and luggage tags, and I have been told a few times from workers that they have never seen a person so organized. I think it is also a great idea to copy passports. I always leave copies of my passport with my sister, in the event it gets lost, those copies can expedite the travel process back home.

We make a copy of our passports and all travel related information and keep the original in my wifes backpack and the copies in my backpack.

One thing we do is put our name and address on a 8x11 paper in big print and put that in the front pocket of our luggage with our destination addresss. That way if the bag is lost they can open the bag and see where the bag was aiming for. On the way home we remove the destination page with our home address, just in case. The tag on the outside of your luggage always has your home address but not where you are traveling to.

I also write in perment marker on the bottom of my foot the phone number of who I left a copy of all my docs with, aka my emergency contact. That way if something happens and I dont have my phone or its damaged ECT I have the phone number. This is something I have done for a long time any time I travel and plan to do this on my first cruise coming up as well.

We do everything you mentioned plus....we e-mail ourselves a photo of all pertinent documents and save it so that we have access to getting a copy of those documents at any place with internet access in case....all bases covered can't be too cautious

Tony, great advice. I make copies of all my documents especially Passports. I give a copy to my wife as I carry the originals. I like you keep a copy at home of my passport. In foreign ports I always take our passports with us. Not so much in the US. I always keep my passports in the safe while on board the ship along with cash and other id's.

In addition to making copies (and leaving one with a trusted contact back home) it's a good idea to scan your passport (or take a photo of it) and email it to yourself. This way you always have a digital copy that can be accessed even if something horrible happens and you were to lose you passport and phone. I prefer to leave my actual passport on the ship and just carry a copy as the thought of losing it on the beach or an excursion is terrifying!

I like to cruise with my passport & birth certificate ( I have a small birth certificate card that when you was born they did in FL at the time, it has a raised stamp and everything, and is the size of a credit card so I can easily carry it )

But I always take my passport off with me for that “ just in case “ situation.

I am going on carnival horizon in April and am so excited! Enjoy your

We leave copies at home. We take originals and at least one copy with us. Last time our travel partners had our extra copies in their carry on bag. Also, we take pictures with our phones so we always have them there!

I love this topic. I would do as you have described and make a copy to leave at home and in the safe in my wallet. Better be safe than sorry! Thanks Tony!

Being in the hospitality industry I am always making sure I have all my paperwork. I leave one at home, ship safe and have a copy with me and if I drove to port I leave a copy in the glove box. I will also take a picture of my boarding pass, passport and even our luggage so if it goes missing I have a picture to identify it easily.

I agree. I always have my passport and licence and my cruise key with me at every port.

In addition to your passport, get & carry a passport card. It’s a great photo ID & will serve for flying in the US.

I’m with you I was double checking and triple checking to make sure all the right documents were there and in the same place I put them even if I knew everything was there! Lol

Thank Tony, I agree I too take copies of the info page of my passport and visa pages if required then I carry my UK passport with me in the safest place, an inside jacket pocket that is zipped is my preference, or in a waist belt carry pack.
Since you are going to the Far East in the fall you will need your passport so regularly in China and Japan that you must carry it at all times. China in particular will need to see their visa often whilst you are off the ship. Shops want it as do the port authorities.
