From the beginning, Adult Swim had been promoting Smiling Friends Go To Brazil as a very special episode. It didn't belong in Season 1 and also wasn't a part of the upcoming Season 2, so what exactly makes it so special? Well, it took on a different formula from everything we're used to in other Smiling Friends episodes. Because of this curveball, this may be one of the show's most divisive stories within the fandom.

While this one was not as laugh-out-loud funny as the previous episodes, the dialogue is so incredibly natural that I'm 100% convinced this exact situation happened to Michael and Zach.

Honestly, the thing I liked most about this "special" is the fact that it was realistic, while also not being too harsh about it. My family and I went on a field trip back in June (going on another one later this month, in fact), and we also had the experience of trying to find a hotel to book. Luckily we did manage to find one, but the pain was still there. This episode managed to capture that pain PERFECTLY without it being irritating.

Season 2 cannot get here any quicker.

I genuinely can't remember the last time I saw a cartoon with such realistic dialogue. The writing, the timing, and the deliveries all come together to make the conversations sound remarkably grounded, and that's no small feat considering two of the speaking characters are being voiced by one person. This episode has to be the show's pinnacle so far in that sense.

Vacation episodes don’t feature what we as people have to deal with on vacations. But smiling friends uses a mundane vacation mess up and makes an episode out of it. Proof you don’t need hijinx to make a vacation episode.

It kind of reminds me of the Seinfeld episode, “The Chinese Restaurant”, where the entire episode is just Jerry, Elaine, and George talking while waiting for a table. And the episode’s main takeaway is the main characters banter.
