There are common reasons that triggers the fatal device hardware error including bad sectors in your hard drive, damaged USB cable you are using to connect your hard drive, the driver is outdated. When it occurs, how to fix the “The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error"? First, you can verify hard drive using Smart Attributes which aims to check the health status of your hard drive. If it doesn't work, you can reformat the disk and initialize. If you’re still encountering the fatal device hardware error, you can run “Disk Check” to check the issues. “Disk Check” is used to find bad sectors, potential errors, bad clusters, etc. The “Disk Check” tool will automatically scan and fix your hard drive and you’ll be able to access it. I will never understand why some people boldly make videos of themselves in which they totally contradict themselves.
The topic is *How to Fix The Request Failed Due to a Fatal Device Hardware Error* <<<< an inaccessible hard disk, and yet in all your presentations, you are working on accessible hard disks with no problem to fix.

None of the solutions presented here are applicable when the error appears on disk management, and the disk has no letters, also the people may be wanting to recover the disk itself regardless of the data, the status of the disk id is OK yet it doesn't appear on explorer.

I look at all of the comments and you've replied to all except the main problem which is first getting past Unknown Not Initialized. You can't try any methods if the computer can't see it. Sorry just frustrated, please help.

This doesn't work if the disk cannot be initialized at all. It won't have a drive letter associated with it.

dude I hate to say but horribly unhelpful for like 80 percent of all the ACTUAL issues I've seen with hard drives. Missing partitions or anything? Can't get into it to initialize? dude cmon at least respond to the comments ffs

On method 4, I can't get past step 3: examining security descriptors. I get "disk read error c0000483
Insufficient disk space to fix the Usn Journal $J data stream"

Thank you. After trying method 4, I got the message "unable to open disk for full access" or something like that. At that point I unplugged my hard drive's power and USB, reseated them both, and it was detected

Hi anyone have any help on fixing a fatal device hardware error on a brand new, just opened, unformatted, uninitialized hard drive that has no letter attached to it because I can't initialize, format, or assign a drive letter as I keep getting a fatal device hardware error and I can't scan it as my pc hasn't the faintest idea what to scan due to not being able to assign it as anything.

very right …when you try to initialize disk >> GPT or MBR >> the request failed due to fatal device hardware error... if you cant access how can you format it? for me it was useless explanation.
