I was fortunate enough to come across a colony of the worlds deadliest bulldog ants!

Only in Australia of course!

Happy to share that I've returned them back to their nest :)

Yes, this is the world's deadliest ant. However it's really not that scary. There have only been a total of 3 recorded deaths from these ants with the most recent being on the late 1930's. All victims were already allergic to the venom. The venom has an LD50 of 5 mg/kg. For reference Nicotine is around 0.8 mg/kg, meaning you can take quite a few stings before you start to get any symptoms.

Just looked it up. Half of the total fatalities caused by the ant had sting allergy and 1 victim was carrying adrenaline beforehand. No fatalities recorded since 2003.

Why is the time comparison so specific?

One can truly hurt you but an entire colony can kill you.

Six ant sting-related fatalities were identified, 5 in Tasmania and 1 in New South Wales between 1980-1996. All were males aged between 40 and 80 and most (5/6) had prior histories of jumper or bull ant venom allergy. Significant cardiopulmonary co-morbidities were identified in all cases and, in addition, moderate-severe laryngeal oedema and coronary atherosclerosis was observed in most (4/6) cases at autopsy.

Myrmecia Gulosa, the red bull ant, also known as the giant bull ant or "hoppy joe". Is a species of bulldog ant from the genus Myrmecia. It is abundant throughout Eastern and Australia. Is one of the "agressive ant" known for it's potent, filled venom sting which causes incredible pain for the victim. They are mainly vicious when they sense the nest is in danger. Another fact, an allergic reaction or multiple bites in humans can lead to anaphylactic shock, which can be dangerous.

P/S: I hope this comment will be helpful.

The funny part he didn’t mention to add to the ‘mystical danger!’ Is they are only deadly when you are allergic and send people into anaphylaxis and just hurt a lot otherwise without any real danger.
