The content shared between the synoptic gospels (Mark, Matthew, and Luke) means that they share a direct literary relationship. The most commonly accepted hypothesis states that Mark was written first and the authors of Matthew and Luke used Mark to write their own accounts. However, for this to be true, they must have also shared an additional gospel, now lost, which scholars call “Q”. What’s the evidence for Q? If it existed, who wrote it and what can it tell us about the historical Jesus?

I love the mission. This should be the mission of everyone, every religious group, community, community outreach group and government. It's unfortunate that greed and corruption has infiltrated so many of these groups. I wish you all well. Bless Us All

John you are a fabulous teacher. Just discovered Centre Pointe yesterday randomly. Brings me back to my religion teacher in high school, Westminster in Atlanta in the 1970s, Professor Yacoubian. Looking forward to more lectures and meditation programs. From my home in the mountains of Western North Carolina. God bless.

I've watched 1000's of hours of this stuff from various content providers. John is by far the clearest, most honest and transparent and most deliberate presenter by far. Thank you so much sir. I just still don't understand how someone this informed is a believer. But utter respect regardless.

As a rabbi and Orthodox Jew, I find much to appreciate in your approach of integrating modern historical and literary methods and their coexisting with "emunah" I have come to a similar path myself in how I relate to traditional Torah and later rabbinic sources and the living practice of Judaism. Thanks.

I sang the preamble to the Constitution along with you (fellow old dude I am!!!).... great presentation-- so happy to have found your channel in these uncertain times... I think that spiritual communities of authentic Christians are a key to surviving the coming decade. God bless :)

Wow, I must commend you for doing your own research. I have been working on the same thing using different resources. Reading Greek is most important.

I'm an atheist, and I love John Hamer's videos! His content is so engaging and interesting, and he has corrected me on a few things, which I am always very grateful for. Plus, when he's in front of a live audience I really admire his practice of allowing people to interject with a question at any time. Kudos :)

I have no dog in this fight, but regarding Luke being sourced from Matthew instead of Mark and Q, and your objection that why would the author of Luke leave all of Matthew's Markan material in order but rearrange what would be the Q material, doesn't the difference in content between Mark and Q answer that? That is, the Q material is just sayings, disconnected from context. There is no chronology to it. The Markan material is more biographical, which gives the author of Luke a motivation to keep the chronology consistent with Matthew. The "sayings" material can be inserted wherever Luke's author feels it best fits or where it best serves his purpose.

I 😘 loved this. 😛👍👍👍 I've tried to learn after Bart Herman's books opened my mind. ❤️ We went to LHS at the same time. I didn't realize the books were by him! We had friends in common. Amazingly I was there when he met "Bruce" that started his journey.

The graphics shown at 47:47 and onward are extremely valuable in showing the relationship between the 3 synoptic gospels. I've listed to 3 or 4 lectures on this topic by Bart Ehrman, but that graphic makes is much clearer. Thanks!

There was a lot of hard work put into that lecture - I knew of Q source but just learnt a lot more about it - thanks 😊

This was a superb synopsis (pardon the pun) of the canonical gospels. I was introduced to several new insights. For example, Luke writes of an urban locale, Matthew is concerned with royalty, and the sayings of Jesus speak of a rural locale and the poor who live there.
