if the gas companies are responsible why is this only a problem in CA?

This is because of California politicians. California has made the cost of gas so high from insane regulations plus massive taxes on gas.

We’re living in some weird times when I’m more inclined to believe a gas company over our politicians. It’s unfortunate.

When you are forced to pay close to $2.00 in taxes on each gallon of gas, any action taken by the state to cause a rise in gas prices is criminal.

First fact to understand - California charges $1.43 PER GALLON in taxes and fees. They’ll only reference the state gas tax, but, it’s $1.43 total. That is f—king ridiculous. We need to take our state back from these arrogant idiots now!

It is a proven fact, that anytime the government gets involved, the cost of doing business goes up.

Get rid of the ENORMOUS taxes on gas before putting the blame on someone else.

I just went to a birthday party in Houston and pumped the rental for $2.10 while it’s $5 in ca. not a gas company problem. It’s a California politician problem.

I filled up for $2.60/gal today in New Mexico. Why is it so expensive to do business in California? That's right, politics.

I paid $2.39 for gas today. I moved away from California four years ago. It’s wild that the people of California actually vote for this nonsense. Guess what, come this November you’ll do it again. Take a look at the gas bills passed previously. They were in fact voted on.

Lets not forget the people of California voted in an ever increasing gas tax that the Sate controls and can increase at their desire

heaven forbid they drop the gas tax to bring down the price.

Easy way to drive prices down. 1) Get rid of special formulations. 2) Reset emissions standards to federal regulation levels. 3) Remove regulations that prevent oil production and exploration.

- Build more storage capacity or be fined into oblivion.
- Existing refineries are full. Can we expand?
- Nope because climate change
- Okay, can we build a new one?
- Nope because climate change
- Okay can we use out of state storage as a buffer?
- Nope because it has to be in state, because climate change

Yes we know CA plays politics with our gas prices. We should have never allowed the taxes added to gas so that politicians can play with our cost at the station. Dembots never have facts. We have the safest and cleanest refineries in America. We're safe. We want cheaper gas.

California is one of the few states that can pump oil ans also refine it. It's an in-house industry. So, why is it so expensive there?

Maybe the state senate will pass a bill mandating DMV have a 5 minute wait maximum .

oil companies should just leave the state like the insurance companies. let them ride bikes and horses.

It’s the politicians fault we have high gasoline prices. Chevron is spot on!

The problem is California has its own proprietary gasoline and no other state refineries are allowed to produce it. That sounds like a monopoly to me. Why not change the law and start from there? These greedy oil companies need some competition.
