Im almost three years into this injury and this is the first time I searched to see what other people’s recovery looks like. I haven’t searched what recovery looks like for others sooner because I didn’t want to accept the severity of my injury. Mine was due to a motor cycle incident like most of us it seems. I’ve had many serious injuries in my life but nothing like this. This is life changing as we know. The truth is it dose get better but it takes years.

For those coming to this video who recently suffered this injury this is a tough pill to swallow, it was for me anyway. You will surprise yourself with how well you’ll adapt. It will never be normal but you’ll find your new normal. I’m to the point now where I think it’s hard for people to notice when I’m just walking around but it requires constant focus.

Try to keep a good mindset, eat well, stay active and constantly use what movement you have. Even three years in I feel like I’m still improving. ❤️

Thank you for this video. I had my accident (motorcycle) on October 6, 2024. Been in Occupational Therapy since but can't seem to find the strength to get movement back. Tomorrow Jan. 3, 2025, I go see the Neurologist to see if surgery is necessary. I am hopeful I will regain my movement and make a great recovery. To be honest I was terrified and nervous to hear the Doctor say I in fact do need surgery, but after watching this it gives me hope to know that I can get back to how I was.

Thank you for sharing your story Steve and everyone else in the comments too. If anyone is here facing the same injury, just remain hopeful and keep your spirits up. Allow time to pass and you will see improvement.

Thank you so much for this great testimonial. My son had a similar accident a few months back. We still don't know the full extent of nerve damage but this gives me hope that his arm will work again

So happy to see your recovery over time; my daughter just had a car accident and is pretty discouraged with what this injury seems to imply. I had never heard of it ever before, but we are learning as we go. She has hand motion, although they said her nerves were severed at places... she just started PT today. Thanks for helping to inspire us!

I had a car accident in January 2nd of 2017. Leaving me with a breackle plexus injury really bad. I went to Hss in lower Manhattan as no doctor in Rochester ny could help me I had a 12 hour surgery to rebuild my nerves. It's so hard to keep going. But I do two times a week pyhical therapy and being head strong has kept me going. Your video helped. Thank you

I crashed my motorcycle from my own foolish act back in July. Avulsed C5, C6 and partial C7 but with continuity to C7.

Underwent a triple nerve transfer. FCU ulnar fascicle to biceps branch, medial head triceps branch to full axillary, and distal accessory to suprascapular micro fascicular transfer.

I'm really struggling with the mental aspect of my injury, as the accident was essentially my fault. Only me involved. I'm in my early 20s, and like someone else I saw comment, I feel like my life is 'over' before it even began. Especially after being told sensation would not return, and that some muscles will remain denervated, it is an extremely tough pill to swallow.

Hardest part was I was told in the hospital that it would all heal naturally and no surgery was needed, come my EMG test a couple months later, I was told I had avulsions and my arm would never be the same as it was. Quite the roller coaster... relief, to grief...

I keep reminding myself it could have been a lot worse, but as I'm sure many of you resonate with, even that doesn't really help.

My hopes is that technology and medicine will innovate and come up with some sort of treatment (even for those injured a long period prior) to heal and 'reconnect' the nerve roots and restore the original nerves. But as we know the atrophy is another problem, and so I suppose two problems would need to be solved to combat this. Reversing denervation atrophy and reconnecting nerve roots to the spine safely and effectively.

I've been going to physio every week for two sessions, and trying to stay on my home exercises consistently.

If anyone has any advice, motivation, or even other treatments or information I would love for you to share it, as I think talking about it helps a lot.

Hopefully in these next few months, and years I can get back good function.

I had a ACDF operation on C4- C7 vertebrae 23-02-2021, woke up and could not lift my left arm. Went for second opinion and have found that problem with Brachial Plexus, going for more tests to see what damage has been done.
