It's actually WILD that there were so many movies portraying Gorilla's as violent and bloodthirsty while CHIMPANZEES were portrayed as silly and harmless.
People REALLY got the two animals backwards.

When I was younger the family went to the Cincinnati zoo. My wheelchair bound mother went up to the Gorilla pen. The adults were in the shelter in the back while two baby gorillas wrestled outside. The babies started being rough and my mom hit the plexiglass to get the adult gorillas attention.

The silverback came out and my mom pointed to the babies and yelled "Hey, your kids are fighting!" Silverback walked over to the babies and gently pushed them apart. He then stood upright, walked over to my mom, stood right in front of her, looked her dead in the eyes and put his hands on his hips as if saying "there, that good enough for you miss busybody?"

One of the funniest things I ever saw.

Fun Fact: A gorilla in a zoo, I think it was Coco, loved to watch Mr. Rogers. When Mr. Rogers learned of this, he made a trip to that zoo and filmed an episode of the show with the gorilla. When the two of them first sat down together, the first thing the gorilla did was untie Mr. Rogers' shoes - because that is one of the first things he always does in his show.

My parents said there used to be a gorilla at the Toronto zoo where if people weren't looking at him, he would throw a bucket at the glass to scare the kids and then pretend to be asleep. Charlie the gorilla, apparently a known practical joker.
