You know I listened to this lying in bed before my open heart surgery. Here I was thriving in life, got into medical school, kicked ass and was the top 20% of my class. I was talking about marriage with my fiance. Then one day I got quite ill. Had to go through many medical tests and turned out I needed a new valve. Within a matter of one week, I was told I needed open heart surgery, my fiance decided to tell me, she needed "rest and needed to relax" as I have too many issues, including medical school and now health issues, and then I was told I needed to go on a medical leave. My life fell before my eyes. But not to sound like a cliche, it was this music on repeat that I held onto. The spirit of never giving up, continuing on. I went into surgery and told myself if I make it out alive, I will live the best possible life. I did, I lived on. What hit me most was what my surgeon told me after. He said, "You know man, a lot of shit happened to you, I get it, youre hurt, but let me tell you something, when I was bringing you back off of bypass in the surgery, I didnt need to put any medication in your heart, you were ready to go, you see, you have a very strong heart, it was beating on its own, when we warmed you up, so that should tell you something, your heart didnt leave you when others did, live on now, you have your heart on your side, you need nothing else". I dont think Ive cried as hard as I did then, but I knew then it was okay. I was alive, God got me through, he gave me a strong heart. Now I am back in medical school, and doing what I do best, straight A's, but now I may not have my ex fiance with me, but I am more apt to be kinder, nicer to people only because I know how it feels to be heart broken....live for yourself, live the best possible life you can and never ever give up....why because we all have a "Mickey that loves us".

As a little boy I had dreams. Everytime I watched rocky I believed I coukd achieve anything. Now since 2002 I've been dealing with chronic illness. The only dream I have now is that I can somehow stay healthy and be here for my boy who is 4

Today I buried my father, who died at the age of 89, in the Lake of Zurich. I chose this song because I think it's the most beautiful song ever and I want to play it at my funeral. That's why I want to thank everyone who contributed to the fact that this song exists at all. Thank you, thank you very much.
