***Lyrics***
Out in the West Texas town of El Paso
I fell in love with a Mexican girl
Night-time would find me in Rosa's Cantina
Music would play and Feleena would whirl

Blacker than night were the eyes of Feleena
Wicked and evil while casting a spell
My love was deep for this Mexican maiden
I was in love but in vain, I could tell

One night a wild young cowboy came in
Wild as the West Texas wind
Dashing and daring
A drink he was sharing
With wicked Feleena
The girl that I loved

So in anger I
Challenged his right for the love of this maiden
Down went his hand for the gun that he wore
My challenge was answered in less than a heart-beat
The handsome young stranger lay dead on the floor

Just for a moment I stood there in silence
Shocked by the foul evil deed I had done
Many thoughts raced through my mind as I stood there
I had but one chance and that was to run

Out through the back door of Rosa"s I ran
Out where the horses were tied
I caught a good one
It looked like it could run
Up on its back
And away I did ride

Just as fast as I
Could from the West Texas town of El Paso
Out to the bad-lands of New Mexico

Back in El Paso my life would be worthless
Everything's gone in life nothing is left
It's been so long since I've seen the young maiden
My love is stronger than my fear of death

I saddled up and away I did go
Riding alone in the dark
Maybe tomorrow
A bullet may find me
Tonight nothing's worse than this
Pain in my heart

And at last here I
Am on the hill overlooking El Paso
I can see Rosa's Cantina below
My love is strong and it pushes me onward
Down off the hill to Feleena I go

Off to my right I see five mounted cowboys
Off to my left ride a dozen or more
Shouting and shooting I can't let them catch me
I have to make it to Rosa's back door

Something is dreadfully wrong for I feel
A deep burning pain in my side
Though I am trying
To stay in the saddle
I'm getting weary
Unable to ride

But my love for
Feleena is strong and I rise where I've fallen
Though I am weary I can't stop to rest
I see the white puff of smoke from the rifle
I feel the bullet go deep in my chest

From out of nowhere Feleena has found me
Kissing my cheek as she kneels by my side
Cradled by two loving arms that I'll die for
One little kiss and Feleena, good-bye

My dad's dream was to go to El paso to see Rosa's Cantona.
I brought him, from Ireland.
The amazing people we met there made it even more memorable for him.
Still talks about it.
Love it

This is one of the most cleverly written and performed songs of all time . There's no chorus or verse repeat . The story just flows from beginning to end. Brilliant.

Love this song. I grew up in Las Cruces, New Mexico and El Paso. There is no better place to be raised. Two of my brothers married young Mexican maidens and I am proud to say they are my sisters. Thanks Marty.

Great song. The guitarist is the late Grady Martin one of the members of "The Nashville A-Team". They were a group of studio musicians who played on countless recordings. The song is in the key of D major and Grady Martin opens with some beautiful playing which includes diatonic thirds and tremolo picking. By the time Marty Robbins sings "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso" you're already there.

The BEST country western ballad I have ever heard. This is his crowning achievement.

Simply one of the best written and performed songs ever. If Marty Robbins had never sung anything before or after, he would still have achieved immortality with this song alone.

This was the first song my fiance sang to me. He's such a hopeless romantic guy and I love it. 😍😊 Proud to be his Mexican girl. Can't wait to marry my cowboy.

Marty Robbins was one of the most talented singer-songwriters we've ever had the privilege of listening to, and the way country music is nowadays, we'll never see the likes of him again. RIP, Marty--thanks for all the wonderful music!😔💒

I love all your emotional stories
I am 15 years old an live in Europe
I hate modern music because it has neither story or the singers need skill

I love Marty Robbins and Johnny Cash for being such talented singers and songwriters

Cheer up to the old and good musicians !!

I have have always loved this song. Marty Robbins' voice was perfect for the lead, the background singers complemented him perfectly and the guitar playing was exceptional. This song will always have a special place in my heart. I was embarked aboard the USS TARAWA when we put in at Acapulco in 1976. There, by the grace of God, I happened to meet a beautiful little Mexican señorita. She was a young school teacher and I was a young Marine. For me it was love at first sight. Three years later we married in Mexico City and I brought her home. Today we have four children and six grandchildren, and our love for each other continues to grow. Thank you for posting El Paso, lyrics and all.

This song reminds me of my daddy. He used to sing it. I would give anything to hear him sing again.
