This is the most genius thing Ive ever heard. He writes a song about his previous song El Paso 16 years later through the eyes of someone who upon flying over el paso recalls the song but not the singer 😂 and slowly realizes that he is the reincarnation of the protagonist of the original song being called back to el paso to meet his fate once again = mind blown. Much respect for this man's song writing capabilities.

Martin Robinson aka Marty Robbins, you left us in 1982 but your music is still music to our ears, thank you from Australia 👏🏼🥰🎸🎙🎶

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Greatest storyteller in the history of music, and there isn't a close second.

I was introduced to Marty in the 50’s. Jr. High prom; lots of “White Sport Coats” worn. Then, in high school (1959) got the famous Gunfighters album. What a voice telling great stories. I left Marty’s music when the wild 60’s and 70’s took me to that era music. I’m now 77 years old and started back listening to all his music I missed all those years. I play guitar and sing. (Just a backyard picker). I can’t get enough of his music. You pickers out there know that this man took only 3 or 4 basic cords and produced the best of the best. His backup singers and players add so much to his songs also. I have regrets but I’m thankful that I can enjoy his music the rest of my days. Hope to see you at the top of that mountain I know you climbed. Thank you Marty! RIP

Answering his own song with an entirely new story...Marty Robbins was a lyrical genius.

I love the line "I don't recall who sang the song" because there were in fact, two songs about this story, and Marty sang them both. What a legend.

Most of the time when a popular song becomes so popular that another is made of it, and never good as the original, But this is Marty Robbins, and this song is so much better than the original El Paso. I never get tired of hearing it. M. Robbins was the best ever.

"Another voice keeps tellin' me
Maybe death awaits me in El Paso"

One of the best closing lines of a song. R.I.P. Marty Robbins!

One of the many reasons I'm thankful, blessed, and fortunate to have been born, and still live in El Paso. I'm 19, and I wish Marty Robbins was alive, writing more songs about El Paso and different ballads for our generation. Such an icon in music and in general. Thanks Marty for putting us on the map with your two songs about E Paso :).

I went and lived in El Paso because of this song, what a time to be alive, what great people and moments shared. How I miss those times. Life is for living.

My mother bought this on 45 when it came out in 1976. I was 8 years old and loved the story and the unique feel of the song. I still do.
