Brilliant. I had a much more convoluted way of doing this. I also like the tape depth gauge with the tail to sweep away the sawdust - I use that all the time. If you have a lot of these, like when I drilled door handles for my IKEA kitchen, a jig is absolutely the way to go.

If you have to drill holes for dowels more than 10 times, make a quick jig for it

Seriously dont do this by tape masking/imprinting, use a centering jig. Save yourself the headache! I learned this the hard way. (Also you can drill at slight angle and screw it up as well)

I wonder how many attempts it took him to actually get a decent result worth showing - the top plank he was drilling in the beginning and the one that got hammered in the end are clearly different pieces. I tried it a month ago and let me tell you - you are going to get much more consistent results using a speedsquare and a pencil, than this bs with tape.
