Here's something that is rarely discussed as to why this happens. Sometimes the mans parents don't want him to be with her because they don't want to see him grow past them. If the man doesn't grow up seeing his parents or relatives in healthy happy relationships the parents may try to hold him back from finding his happiness. Misery loves company and sadly so men are influenced by their parents expectations. I've seen this play out and the only way to avoid it is to ostracize the parents because they wont change. I've heard of instances where parents who their sons that they were better off focusing on them. For many the hardest thing for someone to do is to have tell their parents that they are not listening to their influence anyone because these older parents are experts at gaslighting.

I think it's very hard for really young men and women to know what they have until it's gone. I'm glad we received marriage counseling several months prior to getting married and one of the best topics covered was conflict resolution. Do you have to win every argument or can you develop a win-win attitude? Can you you make a decision to stop an argument and revisit the conversation later? Realize you will never find someone with no traumas and personal weaknesses. Can you focus on that persons good points instead of just negative ones?
