Manuel Ugarte appears to be Erik ten Hag’s number one midfield target
for Manchester United this summer. Ugarte is a player well established for his excellent work as a defensive midfielder for Sporting Lisbon, and now for PSG. It hasn’t quite worked out how he would have wanted it to with PSG, but that falls right into our hands. The type of DM that Ugarte is, makes him a poor fit for PSG. More on that later. When I was watching United in the '60s Nobby Stiles (RIP) was that Guy, winning the ball and then giving it to Charlton & Paddy as soon as he could. Not the greatest footballer but he was always Mr Dependable👍👍❤❤

People are seriously underrating ugarte passing ability... you dont play midfield for sporting or psg if u cant handle the ball !! Kante can also handle the ball and control the tempo

I think that as a defensive midfielder, Ugarte will fit into defensive midfield at Manchester United.

He's going to be that dog we've desperately needed in midfield. With the defense holding a higher line and Ugarte keeping guard, I don't see our midfield being run through into open swaths of space. My word, I hope he signs.

We need Ugarte, I grew up on Robson, Ince, Keane etc, without being too disrespectful to our current crop we need someone nasty when things are going pear shaped

Manuel Ugarte is the obvious and probably best option available. Others at a similar level or better are either unavailable, too expensive or wouldn't be willing to join us at the present time. His passing is much better than many give him credit for.

A dream summer in terms of midfield overhaul would be Ugarte and Fofana joining, with Casemiro, Hannibal, Eriksen and McTominay leaving.

Giving us options of Ugarte, Collyer, Fofana, Mainoo, Bruno, and Mount.

If we can't find a buyer for Casemiro then he's included in there and you maybe loan out Collyer so that he can get the regular minutes he needs to continue his development. He can then come back next summer ready to replace Casemiro then. There's even an argument to be made that if United can sign both Ugarte and Fofana then maybe keeping Casemiro and loaning out Collyer might be the better long term option, as baring an injury crisis Collyer would struggle for minutes with them three and Mainoo in the team ahead of him.

Whilst I Ugarte would be my first choice for the role we need I like the fact that we are clearly looking at multiple options and putting feelers out for the financials. Rabiot, Rios and Zubimendi all also linked.
