Solve the Rational Inequality Using a SIGN CHART

Показать описание
How to solve a rational inequality using a sign diagram. EASY. First factor the numerator and denominator and find the zeros. Then use those values to make a sign chart and use the sign chart to answer the question.
Method: Solve using sign charts.
Step 1: Place the inequality in standard form with zero on one side.
Step 2: Find the critical numbers (for quadratics - the x-intercepts.)
Step 3: Create a sign chart by determining the sign in each interval bounded by the critical numbers.
Step 4: Use the sign chart to answer the question.
Rational inequalities are solved using the same technique. The only difference is in the critical numbers. It turns out that the y-values may change from positive to negative at a restriction. So we will include the zeros of the denominator in our list of critical numbers
