Anyone can feel gender dysphoria, not everyone has the gender identity disorder. Gender dysphoria is rare and gender identity disorder is even more rare.

As long as cultures have had genders, there have been people with what we would describe as gender dysphoria. From the genderless human sent by ishtar into the underworld to the roman empress, to the two spirit folk of the Americas to trans people of the modern day. We'd all do well to get used to their existence.

This is interesting. I do agree re PTSD. However, it's a big jump from PTSD to gender dysphoria. Distress is very much a wide ranging term. Neither syndrome nestles simply into "distress". You need to be more specific in terms of symptomology and also experiences of such distress.

PTSD is unlikely to be the cause of gender dysphoria. It is ultimately up to the individual how they deal with GD and not interfering pop psychologists like Joyce. Her views are simplistic and threaten individual liberty.
