I grew up under a narcissistic Father who regularly engaged in both Projective Identification and violent physical/emotional abuse toward my Mother and myself. Despite years of psychiatric treatment, I've never recovered from the long-term damage. Now elderly, not a day goes by without dealing with the ongoing, crippling effects of this abuse. I am very grateful to now see so many more well-trained police and psychology professionals available to the public for help with these matters.

This is the best explanation of projective identification that I’ve seen on YouTube. Thank you.

I had this happen to me recently, and I was wondering why people do this when they get rejected due to their own shortcomings. Now I can just get on with my life and ignore people like this. Thanks.

I was looking more specifically for projective identification and how it affects the group counseling experience but I feel like through your video I do have a better understanding on what projective identification is and how it affects others. Your incorporation of the American childhood riposte was a great addition as well.

Yes, I would also add Projective Identification can be picked up in the Countertransference. What response is engendered in the PI? Because they are re-enacting unconscious themes from primary others- pathogenic introjects that get split off from the self and introjected in the object.

Seven years. I’ve asked my family and friends if I was all these terrible things because I truly felt I lost my identity. When they told me otherwise I had a terrible time believing them. I am a psych nerd and have never heard of this before. I literally just learned half hour ago. Your video was very helpful. I have to find myself again and put the pieces back together. Can you make a video specifically for preventing this from happening?

I've realized I am very prone to projective identification (absorbing other people's qualities/projections into me). What does this mean?? What can I do to change this?
