he looks like a grizzled special forces vet, someone who's seen some shit and doesn't have a care in the world what he looks like, what do you want to him to look like? a well dressed hunk with a leather jacket? I like his look a lot and it's better than another comic esque villain with a larger than life style/appearance, even if it worked well before with Negan and The Governor etc. I think it's nice seeing someone who looks more authentic and realistic, you know?

Pope will probably try to recruit Daryl, almost every villain on the walking dead has shown some sort of interest in Daryl, they want him on their side.

I didn't really care for the idea of "the reapers" but now I'm excited about coz this dr robotnik looking dude is a fantastic actor

It's Heisenberg! Walter White would have existed or exists in The Walking Dead universe, because there was a video a while back that said that The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad apparently coexist in the same "Television Universe." The Apocalypse turned Walter White into Heisenberg! Even if Walt was dead by this point in the story, it wouldn't be the first time someone rose from the dead in this world.

Seriously, though, he seems like that type of villain. Not the original Walter White, but the Heisenberg he became. He was probably a Sunday School teacher or a Quiz Bowl coach.. He seems like a villain who uses intellect to rule over his people, instead of physical force and muscle. Like Walt, (and Eugene as far as his weaponized intellect), he's a mental badass.

Killing Dog would fit the pattern of most animals' fates on here. Many horses have been eaten, those dogs the main characters ate on the way to Alexandria, Shiva, at least one of the dogs that chased Negan, that deer on the Whisperers' territory, to name a few.

No prior frame of reference since Repears aren't in the book. Could have said the same about Governor before season 3 given how he appeared in the book. Turned about to be great choice! Walking Dead has good track record on casting characters. Not worried here.

Maybe that look is part of the danger. It's ironic, cuz you'd expect Pope to be a big, bad former Marine or Navy Seal or Army Ranger to rule over those badasses. There he is looking like Luigi. He uses his dorky looks to conceal his true nature as a badass. He wants people to underestimate him and think he's weak and incapable of defending himself. Then he catches them off-guard. Like how Eugene would keep his mullet, aka Tennessee Top Hat, to make people underestimate his intelligence.

I think this kinda makes sense. The pope isn't some big muscular guy. Hes the guy that gets everyone to do what he wants. Giving me mafia boss vibes.
