I HATE PENNIES!!!! (Also Nickels.)

In which John Green discusses his virulent hatred for pennies and nickels, two utterly irrelevant coins that inexplicably remain money in the United States of America. It costs more than 1.7 cents to make a 1 cent penny coin in the US; nickels are even more ridiculous, costing more than nine cents to produce.

When Canada got rid of pennies, we were all freaking out about it, and then about a week later we realized literally nothing changed.

As a freshmen in high school, I can confidently say that everyone finds pennies more effective to throw at one another than they are to use on buying things.

If you only like the penny because of Abe Lincoln, boy do I have news for you. He's on the $5 bill too

When I was kid, this older girl one time paid for a Big Mac, soda and fries with all pennies. The McDonald's attendant was so pissed, but she couldn't refuse. It's legal currency. She counted out the pennies on the counter while all the customers laughed.

I personally think that the US should make the 50 cent pieces called halves, and we could just use quarters and halves.

Throughout the video, John's voice gets increasingly higher in pitch.

Laughing because in Canada, we no longer use pennies. And yes, our lives are better because of it.

Alas, 2014, there are still pennies...and nickels.

What pisses me off more is the fact that they only mint the half dollar NIFC (Not Intended For Circulation), when in reality I buy way more stuff for 50 cents than 25 cents.

And this is ignoring the Metric system that we DO NOT USE

In Britain we have pennies, then the 2p coin, then the 5p, then 10, 20, 50, £1 and £2. And really we could get rid of a couple of these

John's worst nightmare:

The US continues printing pennies, but replace Lincoln with unicorns. The nickel would have Voldemort.

It blows my mind the all the (evidently American) commenters don't understand the concept of rounding. Like y'all are like: WHAT IF I PAY A DOLLAR AND THE ITEM COSTS $0.99?!?!?!!

If something costs $0.99 and you give a $2 coin, you get $1 back. Yes, a massive loss of $0.01.

Likewise, if something costs $1.02, and you pay with a $2 coin, you get super lucky and score two whole cents off! What a deal!  Sticking it to the man, right?!

Trust me Americans, neither you nor your economy will suffer from rounding.

Lmao I'm from 13 years in the future with a message that we *still have pennies* and their value is now *70% of what it was at the time of this video.*
