Analysis: Russia becomes a central force in South Caucasus

Russia has negotiated a peace deal between Azerbaijan and Armenia, bringing to an end six weeks of conflict in the Nagorno-Karabakh region. FRANCE 24’s chief foreign editor Robert Parsons, says Russian foreign policy turned the odds in the conflict. Not only has the country effectively demonstrated its continuing centrality to any deal in the region between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but now also has in place 2000 peacekeepers.

Armenia /France/Greece Lost, AZERBAIJAN/TURKEY WON

Russia will never leave Azerbaycan, but if the Armenians accept that they have lost once and for all, that should be ok.

Azerbaijan won this war against Armenia because the Azerbaijan army has far superior military strength and morale to fight for motherland within their internationally recognized borders compare to Armenian army which relied on diaspora activity and possible Russian intervene in the case of any type of military operation against them. When Armenians realized that they are no longer able to resist against Azerbaijan without Russian assistance, they accepted their defeat and signed the capitulation. But Turkey backed up Azerbaijan politically which helps a lot to carried out military operations without external threat. The "red lines" have already been determined by Turkey, Russian and Azerbaijan that clearly seen on the first draft of peace treaty. Karabagh has always been Azerbaijan and it will remain as such.
