'Particle Identifcation at LHCb' by Prof. Yanxi Zhang

The Large Hadron Collider Beauty (LHCb) experiment is operated on the LHC at CERN, dedicated for precision measurements in beauty and charm (heavy flavor) hadrons, aiming at physics related to the CKM matrix, CP violation, rare decays as well as nuclear matter properties etc. The LHCb detector is optimized for its tracking and particle identification (PID) systems to be able to precisely detect and identify heavy flavor decays. In this talk, the LHCb experiment is presented with an introduction on the physics scopes, and discussions on sub detector systems with emphases on PID detectors. Special to LHCb is two Cherenkov detectors that lead the role for identification of charged hadrons. Relevant results demonstrating detector performances will be shown. Prospects for LHCb upgrade will also be mentioned.
