Liver spots on skin | Tips to deal with Age spots - Dr. Rasya Dixit | Doctors' Circle

Often confused for freckles, liver spots are names given to pigmentation that are reddish which are appearing on the skin. These can range from freckles to cherry angiomas and they are given the name Liver spots because they were thought to be because of a problem in the liver. The liver has nothing to do with the liver spots or the age spots on the skin. It is just given a misnomer. So freckles area deep pigmentation. They are an indication of chronic sun exposure which could be happening over a period of time. Usually these are inherited. So if you have inherited freckles, it could be that somebody in your family could have had more freckles. first thing to do is to protect your skin with a good sunscreen and using other photo protective measures like correct protective clothing when you are out in the sun or use of a correct umbrella or a cap when you are going out freckles are usually deep seated and cannot be treated without a laser. So if you feel if you have many of such age spots do speak to your dermatologist who can recommend a better sunscreen if they feel with they are using is not adequate. You can use an exfoliating retinol based creams which can prevent the appearance of one age spots and probably do a laser. The laser that can be used to remove freckle is a Q switched Nd: YAG laser. It is a non abalative laser a very safe laser , and a couple of quick treatment is what is required to keep the skin free of those age spots.
