Those hardened stainless steel calipers can be drilled with a carbide drill. If you don’t have a spade or twist drill a carbide tipped masonry bit with the tip sharpened will do the job (and they are cheap!) or you can notch the piece as you did. Inexpensive digital readout that functions every bit as good as a high dollar unit! Awesome!!

Awesome! I'm a Turner/Fitter by Trade, but I'm now a self employed Handyman. I have a Pillar Drill that I've just added a cheap 2 axis Table to, this would be a far more accurate way of using that 😁

very good congratulations, to drill such hard steel you need a very small speed and a little patience

I had to watch all of your lathe-videos in one go. Now I want to make my own. :) Very good stuff.
I have one question, why is the cross-sled so long, considering that one would only ever want to use tooling on the front side of the chuck. Is it to use the lathe as a mill instead?

I would have made it where the zero was at the axis of rotation, then you'd know how large the part is.
