This actually is historically accurate, the machine gun design the Germans used in WW1 was designed by an American and accepted by the Germans because their design was rejected by the US military. (I might have gotten some things about this wrong, if so correct me in the replies pls!)

The difference between the commonly used German and US Mashine gun is how you use them, the german ones are made for short relatively precise bursts and the US is just shoot until you need a new belt.
