I'd seen this before in one of his shows, but this is a masterful way to make easy fire. My problem would be -- that I wouldn't have a flashlight out in the wilderness. Like if you lost stuff from an overturned canoe.

With the sunshine you could of use the reflector of the flashlight to start a fire. Just put your tinder in the center and point at the sun. If you take care not to burn the reflector you can re-assemble the flashlight.
