Save money and buy used from MPB! MPB is a company that I have used loads in the past to save money when buying camera gear. You can also trade in your old gear for cash!

Congratulations Jo, on your first year of wildlife photography you certainly hit the ground running, and are doing a fabulous job photographing and documenting your travels and experiences here on your YouTube channel. So nice to see and such easy watching, wishing you all the best and all the success in the coming years and you never know back we might bump into each other again soon 👍

Hi Jo, just found your channel this morning and really enjoyed your video. I think your idea of printing the best photos from the previous year is a great exercise. I’m sure it will be in the back of one’s mind when taking future photos and help thinking about how to get the best shots each time. I sold my printer years ago because the adjustment variables were so many and with strage terminology one needed a Ph D in printing! I now have any photos printed professionally by people who know what they’re doing. It’s not much more expensive taking into account wasted prints. paper, inks and of the course the cost of the printer. Subbed.

just came across this video and really enjoyed the conversational style and interesting content. i can really relate to your view on initially overprocessing images. every time i open an image i see ways to tweak them and make them more realistic. thanks again for the video.

Great video, Jo. You have certainly come a long way in just one year!! Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, not only with your wildlife photos and videos, but also with the production quality of your YouTube publications.

Another wonderful video Jo!😀 Thanks for the tip on ebird, a useful website and app 😀. Great to hear you are learning more. The photo book is a great idea. I also make 2 calendars every year one for flowers, one for birds/animals. Social media is good for sharing, but viewing on a phone doesn't truly show your work at it's best; I found using a decent android tablet or ipad is a good portable way to show your photos/videos when out; good for looking at your work when at home, without putting the pc on! 😀Also it's an extra backup, especially if you sync to Google Photos or the Apple version (at max res.). Have a great year! Trying hares at the moment; give it a try!

Hi Jo great advice however 1 thing I learned as a new wildlife photographer is that people actually like over-edited photos quite a lot. I edit my photos just like you, slight edit so the viewer can see how real it is. But through the Instagram algorithm I found several wildlife photographers that make beautiful shots and then make it a whole art piece and those photographers have 10s or even 100s of thousands of followers. Makes me wonder if I should do something like that too and drop the whole just boost shadows and highlights etc.

Thank you Jo, very interesting and love the book, I took up photography a year ago and have only just bought my first DSLR. I also enjoyed watching your day in Rhayader with the Red Kites, I live 15 minutes away and have never been to the hides, probably because I usually see one within a minute or two of going outside but the quantity of them in such a small area was amazing. Thank you for the great tips.

Very nice video Jo and you have come on leaps and bounds all ready, I don’t think we ever stop learning as a photographer… out of interest who did you use for the photo book? That’s a really good idea… keep up the good work

Great tips! A comment regarding bringing the tripod for stabilisation - it is also important to avoid injuries. Some people might be able to handhold heavy lenses all day long but take it from someone who has struggled with lateral epicondylitis and damaged shoulders - don´t push your luck 😉 On the other hand - I tend to bring so much gear that I risk other injuries from carrying it all instead 😅
