Farewell and adieu, to you Spanish ladies
Farewell and adieu, to you ladies of Spain
For we received orders
For to sail for Old England
But we hope, very soon, we shall see you again
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar along the salt seas
Until we strike soundings in the channel of Old England
From Ushant to Scilly is 35 leagues
We hove our ship to, with the wind at Southwest boys
We hove our ship to, our soundings to see
We rounded and sounded got 45 fathoms
We squared our main yard and up channel steered we
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar along the salt seas
Until we strike soundings in the channel of Old England
From Ushant to Scilly is 35 leagues
The next land we made was called "The Deadman"
Next ram heads off Plymouth, off Portland and Wight
We sailed by Beachy, by Fairlee and Dungeness
'Till we came abreast of the south foreland light
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar along the salt seas
Until we strike soundings in the channel of Old England
From Ushant to Scilly is 35 leagues
Then the signal was made for the grand fleet to anchor
All in the Downs that night for to lie
Then it's stand by your stoppers, steer clear your shank-painters
Haul up your clew garnets, let tacks and sheet fly
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar along the salt seas
Until we strike soundings in the channel of Old England
From Ushant to Scilly is 35 leagues
So let every man toss off a full bumper
And let every man drink off a full glass
We'll drink and be merry and drown melancholy
Singing, here's a good health to each true-hearted lass
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar along the salt seas
Until we strike soundings in the channel of Old England
From Ushant to Scilly is 35 leagues

Bonus question on geography test: What is the distance from Ushant to Scilly?

"Oh shit, I've got this!"

It's nice to find a group that sings shanties without going into a punk song.

To those who are dumb like me, a league is 3 miles, not a form of currency.
Referring to the line "From Ushant to Scilly is thirty-five leagues"

lyrics: Farewell and adieu unto you Spanish ladies
Farewell and adieu to you ladies of Spain
For it's we've received orders for to sail for old England
But we hope very soon we shall see you again
We'll rant and we'll roar like true British sailors
We'll rant and we'll roar across the salt seas
Until we strike soundings in the Channel of Old England
From Ushant to Scilly is thirty-five leagues

We hove our ship to with the wind at sou'west, boys
We hove our ship to, our soundings to see
So we rounded and sounded; got forty-five fathoms
We squared our main yard and up channel steered we

Here's a story
Recently i've found out im part Irish. Now every time I see a flat cap, I yell, "FLAT CAP"
I came back to this video and saw the flat cap, then remembered why i love this youtube channel and why i love shanties

A snatch of this song was used in The movie Jaws, sung by Quint, the fisherman. But he sang, we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. A folk song like this often has more than one version.

This is the song that got me hooked. I remember looking to see how "the Drunken Sailor" song went. Little did I know what I was missing out on. Now, 2 yrs later, I am planning a trip to Ferndale MI to watch these boys live.

I have a suggestion: could you guys sing We All Lift Together? You know, the song from Warframe. I feel like you guys would put a nice spin on it.
