Robert Shaw sings (Farewell and adieu to you fair) 'Spanish Ladies' 18 years before Jaws!

"Spanish Ladies" is a traditional British naval song, describing a voyage from Spain to the Downs from the viewpoint of ratings of the Royal Navy.

Made famous by Quint (played by Robert Shaw) in Jaws (1975) as a goad to Hooper's anti-shark cage plan, Shaw sang the exact same song 18 years earlier when he starred as Captain Dan Tempest in The Buccaneers.

Robert Shaw was a fantastic actor. We lost him far too soon.

Yet more trivia from the film. I had no idea Robert had already sung that tune in another film...

Think i read somewhere that he forgot his line and sang that instead. Cant imagine any line that could be an improvement for the scene. Its perfection.

So when he sings this song in 'Jaws' it's actually a call back! Brilliant😮

Wow! I've been a huge Jaws fan my entire life (it's my all-time favourite movie), and I'd never seen that clip from 'The Buccaneers' before. That really made my heart swell!

The fact that Shaw and Dreyfus hated each other on set always made it so much better😂

Just as Sir Alec Guinness will be remembered as Obi-Wan Kenobi, Robert Shaw will be remembered as Quint. Both high quality actors who should be remembered for their other work as well.

We lost Robert the same year Jaws 2 released. I miss him so much❤

Robert Shaw was just a magnificent man. A true legend. He was such a confident, intellectual, intimidating, and outright brilliant actor and a truly fantastic writer. Watching this scene makes me tear up. I idolized all of the Jaws trio, but him most of all! Of all the great English/Irish/Scottish/Welsh actors in history, I'd want to go back in time and meet Robert Shaw the most

I have the DVD's and have watched every episode of the Buccaneers. My dad told me he used run home from school to watch it when it was on UK TV in the 50's. It was spine chilling the first time I heard Dan Tempest sing that tune. It features in multiple episodes. Jaws is my all time favourite film. I watch it every year on my Birthday. You can see where Shaw borrowed from his past for Quint.
