Don't Use PS5 Rest Mode Until You See This

Think twice before using PS5 Rest Mode! If your Playstation 5 has this bug, it will crash while using Rest Mode... Follow these steps to fix the PS5 rest mode brick problem. Your PS5 may crash in rest mode if your Playstation has "HDMI Device Link" enabled. First, I recommend disabling this feature if you experience the PS5 rest mode issue. Very informative! Had the exact problem, my issue wasn't with HDMI Device Link but rather the supply power to USB ports, previously had it set to 3 hours because after a long gaming session you jus want to plug yr controller n make sure it's good next time you pick it up, but it kept crashing every single time, so bought an external charging dock, disabled the feature and I haven't had a problem since!
And FYI always have yr console connected to a UPS, super important!

This has been happening to me since the day I got my PS5 about a year ago. I just turned my HDMI link off earlier today and then I see this video, so I'm really hoping this is the fix I've been after these past twelve months. Thanks for the great, helpful content, as always, John!

Edit: My PS5 is now regularly crashing when in rest mode again. If anyone has any tips or anything please let me know. I can’t deal with this shit all over again.

This also applies to PS4 to great extent, which in addition to saying console wasn't properly shut down, it also beeps 3 times before it goes to rest mode, and sometimes even when it's shutting down. As soon as I hear these 3 beeps, I know what screen will greet me next time when I boot my console :) I just did these tweaks, and I'm also using UPS, so let's see what happens after..

You're a LIFE SAVER!!! This has been giving me issues when I try to do remote play then have to shut down for a bit, and when I go back, ps5 was not responding. I'd come home to it being crashed. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

This has been a problem since launch. I use rest mode often and thankfully this happens on very rare occasions.

Great video! For me, my TV screen turned completely green more than a couple of times when I tried putting my PS5 to Sleep/rest mode. Last time it did that the console did not turn on for an hour and when it did, it was in safe mode and all my data was lost. I have been turning it off manually ever since.

Just last week we had a huge power outage while my PS5 was in safe mode. It ended up corrupting the software. Had to wipe and reinstall the OS. Thankfully between cloud storage and second internal HD, no data was lost.

Something to add. I personally don’t think it has to due to the HDMI, cause what I’ve noticed is that warning only comes up if you unplug your AC power cord or it’s not properly in all the way. That’s usually why that warning comes up, and I use rest mode a lot and that never came up for me. As long as your PS5 turns off without you unplugging the AC power cord. Hope this made sense

Great info! Thank you very much. I’ll just add that the link provided suggest a 225W battery back up but maximum consumption of PS5 is rated 350W. So I consider we should get a bigger one considering that most of will add other devices like the tv, speakers, etc.

I have the digital edition of ps5 I use rest mode when I go to bed and have my rest mode power to USB for 3 hours so to charge my pulse 3d headphones I also have hdmi device link ON so when I press the controller to make make the ps5 power on it will also turn my monitor on I have not come across any of these problems but it is still nice to know for future reference incase I come across this problem 👍 thanks John for always keeping us informed of the now and maybe the future 😀 great content as always 👌 you are the go to guy for ps5

For HDMI device link (CEC), I had to start turning my PS5 off via the display instead of the PS5. If you signal the PS5 to go into rest mode through the UI, and then turn off the display, it'll crash. Just doing it through CEC works great.
