For me personally, it doesn't hurt my teeth, but my jaw. I clench my jaw already, but with the added pressure from the retainer, it gives me terrible jaw pain and tension headaches.

It is not too bad. He does make a point that if you wear them often like instructed then the pain will go away. For me it only lasted 3 days then it stopped. Although I have a Hawley retainers so it probably hurts less than clear ones since the clear retainers are more tight.

Honestly, if you survived your braces, any pain you experience afterwards is gonna be a fraction in comparison. Post treatment is SO much better.

My situation was different… got my retainer the day my braces came off. The top one fit perfectly with no pain. The bottom one was cutting into my gum on one side. I complained and was told to give it a few days. I went back a week later for the same thing and was told that it hurts because I haven’t been wearing it. I tried again for another month and it’s still the same thing. I went back and they did nothing. I event Eventually stopped wearing it all together. Luckily my teeth haven’t moved all the way back and it has been over ten years. I can still somewhat wear them.

Just to add they are the old school wire and acrylic retainers. I did ask for the clear ones but my orthodontist refused 🤷🏾‍♀️

They hurt day one. They needed to be trimmed or something because it was on my gums and created a sore spot

always wear your retainers guys. I didn't wear mine and in a couple years my teeth shifted back A LOT

I’m using Invisalign right now and I have not gotten retainers yet but I have a feeling it’s not gonna hurt that bad since i’ve had one for like two years or so so I feel like that would be easier for me personally but like I know that people who get braces they’re not used to the like retainers and stuff, but since the retainers look the same then the Invisalign
