I read the book about him called No Human Contact, this guy was way more than just a mindless killer, his childhood was torture and violence mostly inflicted by his sick and twisted mother which I think damaged his personality for good. If you threatened him it was over for you.

Solitary confinement is arguably the worst punishment anyone could face. There’s ppl who’ve done worse crimes who never got that as a punishment

Read the Hot House, they mentioned his case. Warden created an entire prison cell in the basement just for him, called Silverstein suite. He was denied any human contact, other than the guards bringing his food, shower was inside his cell which had only cold water, he never left the cell even for yard break, no windows no sunlight, only a constantly buzzing fluorescent light which was never turned off, nothing to do other than occasionally a few pieces of paper and chalk. Surprised he lasted 36 years like that.

Well...tbf he defended himself, killed his aggressor, got nothing to loose after given that sentence with no human contact. He's not going anywhere so he might as well kill his bully. One more didn't mean anything to a man that has lost everything.

There are a lot of “transfers” that cause someone to get killed. Remember Whitey Bulger, he was transferred and accidentally left in a cell. He was beaten to death. Some guards are on the take, some prisoners have a lot of money.
