You can be on the same team with out using a clan tag. Both players just need to choose the same color on the main page.

On the main page in the bottom left is a button with a bunch of colored pixels. Click and choose a color. This will be your color when playing in battle royals and 1v1 games as well as the game will try to put you on a team closest to the color you have chosen.

for me the worst part in this game is when you have an exclave and somebody attacks it, all your men die even if its just a seperate exclave then your other neighbours gang up on you
