Dangerous CROSSWIND LANDINGS during a STORM at Amsterdam Schiphol - Boeing 747, Airbus 380 ...

I visited Amsterdam Schiphol last monday, when a storm crossed the country and I was finally able to upload a "crosswind landings during a storm" video from another airport than Düsseldorf. It` s realy impressive to see how the skilled pilots dealed with crosswinds during the severe storm. It` s an amazing feeling when the massive Airbus 380 is touching down on the runway and the nose faces straight at your camera. the wind reached speeds up to 45 knots and after a few hours the runway had to be closed because too many pilots complained about the crosswinds. Thereafter they opened runway 22, the shortest runway at Amsterdam, and even Boeing 747` s landed on the "GAT - runway" (2200m) which is usually only used by small VIP planes.

Featured planes:
1.) Flybe Embrae ERJ-170
2.) KLM Boeing 787
3.) Emirates Airbus 380
4.) Transavia Boeing 737
5.) KLM Boeing 777
6.) Aeromexico Boeing 787
7.) Icelandair Boeing 767
8.) Cargolux Boeing 747-8F
9.) Arkia Boeing 757-300
10.) KLM Boeing 747
11.) Qatar Boeing 777F
12.) Lan Chile Cargo Boeing 777F
13.) Etihad Airbus 330
14.) KLM Boeing 747
15.) Flybe Dash 8Q-400
16.) KLM Embraer ERJ-170
17.) KLM Fokker 70
18.) Easyjet Airbus 320
19.) Vueling AIrbus 320
20.) TAP Airbus 320
21.) Singapore Cargo Boeing 747-400
22.) Tuifly NL Boeing 737
23.) KLM Boeing 777-300

Thanks for watching.

After 35 years as airline pilot I also every year have made countless amount of crosswind landings.
First of all a crosswind landing are neither dangerous, crazy, terrifying or extreme; it is just a part of the normal flight conditions happens all over the world in windy conditions.
All aircrafts has during factory test flight be given a maximum crosswind component, which strictly are being stipulated by the airliners flight operation procedures.
The ideal touchdown path for a modern jet aircraft during crosswind conditions is, crab in to the wind, touch firmly down with upwind main gear first, align aircraft with runway direction simultaneous as downwind gear firmly touch down at the runway, lower the nose gear and apply reverse thrust.
All this is easy done by all pilots during a steady crosswind situation, but in gusty wind conditions the ideal approach and touchdown path will be disturbed which is the reason to a bumpy final phase of the flight. Imagine the airwaves being like the sea waves during a strong wind. If by a strong gust the downwind gear touch down first the landing will be bumpy and uncomfortable, but still safe for the aircraft landing gear and structure. All aircraft has a data record of G-forces being performed and therefore an extreme hard landing will also be registered and prober action taken before the next flight.
Enjoy your next crosswind landing…..

Kudos to these incredible cockpit crews who get us safely "to" and "from." My message to any pilot reading this: A heartfelt THANK YOU for your skills and dedication and your love of flying. Because of you, I get to go places and see things and be with family, and even make new friends. I hope I never, ever take you for granted. Again, thank you!

This vedio is an example of the knowledge, experience and skills of the pilots. "We the passengers" owe THEM the respect and LOVE they truly deserve.

One of the best airport and crosswind videos I've seen. Great position on the airfield, good quality, steady hand and the airport had good traffic. Those pilots did an outstanding job.

My hat is off to these pilots. As passengers we REALLY take for granted all the work and effort these dedicated and experienced men & women do for us. To make our journey as safe and comfortable as they possibly can. We owe them A LOT more respect then there given...!!!

nice landing Boeing 747 KLM. 747 is the Queen of sky :D

Such spectacular photography and clarity. As an aerospace engineer, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the structural flexibility, the occasional shedding vortices (they look like smoke trails coming off the wings), the rapid deployment of spoilers and thrust reversing, and the strength of the landing gear. Oh, and you could see the big difference "mass" makes, comparing an A380/B747 to the twin engine turboprop really getting tossed about the sky.

Now, 06:55 is a beauty: touch, touch, turn, touch

As a professional airline pilot I can tell you the best way to land in a crosswind is to light up a big joint and then sort of play with the control column

Looks like the bigger the aircraft the better it can deal with the crosswinds. 747 and A380 seems to handle it well.

Best crosswind landings I ever seen . Added to favorites, and thumbs up.

Nice job keeping aviation alive and helping aviation geeks like me from being bored on a sunday

I love watching the 747 from the front, the way the weight shifts through landing gear is just beautiful

The wings of the 787 are so flexible that I could see one or two arm wave dance moves around 3:14. It makes quite a difference such flexible wings. They help keeping the fuselage steadier, requiring less surface control inputs.

Those KLM pilots are pros! You can tell they've made a few crosswind landings before 😎

Fantastic work Cargospotter . The stresses on tyres and landing gear being wrenched into line by the runway can only be imagined ! The shots from the rear, s howing all the control surfaces working in concert to control the aircraft are amazing. Thanks for sharing .Wales UK

747 is most graceful. A design ahead of its time.
