Develope floating launch platforms and place over 12 nm outside FAA Authority for launch

Elon could find a suitable small island outside the 12 mile limit and move his launch operations there. Or, maybe just re-model an older oil rig into a suitable launch facility. Yes, it would cost a lot. Yes, it would introduce delays and logistical issues. But in the long run it would be far preferable to being held hostage by the FAA every time he wanted to do something 'risky'. No more 'Launch license reviews' for every damned little change. The construction facilities at Boca Chica could still churn out assemblies, and if there were ever any RUD's on the new launch facility, there wouldn't be any bitching/wrist-wringing on the mainland.

Why hasn't he made this switch already? I think he fears political pushback and a tightening of regulations/permit problems on Boca Chica assembly operations, and perhaps even Texas based operations in general, ( I.E., Giga Texas ) if the Feds started leaning heavily on the state government...the Lone Star state isn't the bastion of independence it used to be, and the people in charge at the federal level have zero compunctions about weaponizing federal agencies to achieve their political agenda goals.

Elon is not infallible. He should have thought of all this long before he started building his star factory in Texas. I thought of it, and I'm no entrepreneur genius, just another stupid bystander ( with a modicum of common sense ). Things are turning out just as I feared they would. Messy.

If I were he, I would simply tear up every last part of the entire Texas starfactory operation and transport it all to a location where he could not be F****d with, save-the seagulls wackos could not bedevil him, and the EPA could only watch impotently. He can afford it. A year's hiatus, and then he could do whatever he wanted, flip his middle finger to the FAA, and go full-speed towards his long term goals.. The final bill would be significantly less than he paid for Twitter ( another of his goof-ups ) Twitter is a money black hole, but at least SpaceX is turning a profit, and will become more profitable over time, MUCH more profitable if Fed interference can be minimized.

Its not a space race, and things might be easier if he didn't blow the ships up as many times as he has. Oh and he is the one who thought it was a good idea to launch / land where he has.
