BIG BANG 5.3L-STOCK BOTTOM END, RING GAP, TWIN TURBO, 24 PSI. HOW MUCH POWER AND BOOST CAN THE STOCK BOTTOM END ON A GEN-3 LM7 5.3L TAKE? TO FIND OUT, I GRABBED A MOTOR FROM A LOCAL WRECKING YARD, ADDED RING GAP, PORTED HEADS, CAM AND INTAKE, THEN TOPPED IT WITH A PAIR OF CXRACING TURBOS. WE TURNED IT UP TO FIND OUT HOW MU
CH POWER THE STOCK BLOCK, CRANK, (GEN 3 POWDERED METAL) RODS AND (CAST) PISTONS WOULD ACTUALLY TAKE.

I rebuilt a Gen 4 5.3 with all stock bottom end components. Gapped the new rings at 32 and 34 thousandths, ball hone. All new heavy duty bearings, including heavy duty cam bearings. Single 98/88 turbo. SEP 100lb injectors and a Holley Terminator Max. BTR truck cam. My truck is so powerful, that I'm having to learn to drive better to handle it. I cheaped out since i don't want to invest money in the old 8.5 10 bolt, and i welded the spider gears two days ago. My friends don't believe that the stock bottom end can handle 15Lbs of boost, so I show them this video. Thanks Richard, for everything. There's a new tuning shop that popped up recently a few months ago two buildings down fromy shop. I got a quote today for basic dyno tuning with the Holley. They told me $1500 for tuning with up to 5 dyno runs. It took some effort to not laugh. This "new" shop charges twice as much as the well established local competitor

27 lbs on a gen 3 5.3 here. Was still alive when I pulled it. Twin setup shifted @8000 ish, no air shifter. Figured it was making around 1350 ish according to fuel consumption. Thanks Richard !!

I bet the 5.3 takes more if absolutely pushed. 6.0 iron block walls get thin in a few spots.
I bet it takes 1, 700 hp.

If you’re trying to find the limit, find the limit! Rev it to the moon, hit 100% duty cycle on the injectors, add a degree or two (if there’s power to be had). I understand that bigger, better turbos might be budget limited, but let’s see what it’ll do, go to the max!

Damn bro, 503 HP NA? They always say, if you're going to turbo a NA engine start with a healthy engine...I'd say you achieved that...

It's going to come down to the strength of the tuner. You can pull masses of timing over the torque peak and just keep adding boost till fail. I'd like to know how far the stock crank would go as drop in forged piston/rod combos are cheap now.
