Letting A Bird Out Their Cage For The First Time

Sorry I was sick and there was a lawnmower and my speaking and thoughts were not cohesive at all. Hope this video made sense! If not let me sum it up here:

Make sure you give your bird 2 weeks to analyze their space and you before letting them out. This prevents bumping into things. Also close windows when you let them out until you can teach them what glass is. As well keep them in one room the one they are familiar with so they can explore little by little.

They will fly up to places or just sit on top of their cage. GIve them time dont panic about them getting back in so quickly. Unless its getting super late. Bribe them with treats or see if they let you pick them up. Keep the environment calm so they dont panic. Worst case scenario and you cant get them down use the technique of turning off the lights. A bird will freeze and you can catch them in a towel and return them.

I remember when I first got my birds and let them out of the cage. They were like “ummmm… what do we do”. I guess it’s because they were caged they whole time till I adopted them. Now they roam freely and visit my while i work from home. They know when it’s their bed time and they’ll say it too. 😊😊😊

Should I let it out of cage in a closed room??
If so, how will I get it back inside?

Hii! I have got a cockatiel and it has been a week. Now he has been caged since she was born (my relatives took care of it before me) i want to let it out bc i feel like its trusting me slowly but my mom is scared. Took me days to try and convince her, she seems more comfortable w the idea. I really wanna let it out and it screams a lot and i know it want to get out. Do u have any recomendation on this?

Super helpful! So just to clarify, wait until at least two weeks before any sort of leaving the door open?

I have a question 😅 I have a baby african grey (3 months old) and I keep him in my PC/office room - I'm in that room 90% of the day. He is on a perch outside of the cage most of the day. He sometimes flies to my chair to get scratches and attention. He is content overall. My main issue is when I have to put him in the cage if I go to the store or bathroom for example (I don't leave him outside of the cage unsupervised). He starts to scratch like a chicken in the corners of the cage until I take him out or climbs and flies/jumps from one top corner of the cage to the bottom perch. What can I do so he understands that sometimes he needs to stay in the cage for his own safety?

When I took the bird out, it kept running and flying, and I got upset, but that was the first week. Is this normal? ❤❤😢

Look guys I need some serious advice I have two budgies who haven’t really flown out of their cage for about two years please don’t judge me I was younger then and had no patience to tame them, now I let them out today and they kept hitting themselves in walls, evidently because of their lack of flight experience. Will this correct itself and should I do it again before I tame them?

I have a Lutino Quaker. It’s been 3 days. First day she didn’t move at all in her cage. She’s starting to make noises and move a lot more in her cage. I want to let her out the cage but I’m scared. She still hides in a corner of the cage if I get close to it. And when I put my hand inside the cage to change her food she tries to bit me. She also doesn’t have her feathers clipped. Should I wait a little longer to get her out?

You literally could not have explained this any better. So I bought two birds and am not familiar with them at all. Today I let them loose in my room for about an hour. Allowed them do their thing I trusted the process and it handled it self ever so perfectly. After about an hour they flew right back into their cage. So my real question is do you recommend I do this often now???

Hello! I took my bird out for the first time today, he’s been caged the past 3 years of his life, at first he just hung out at the door of the cage trying to figure out what to do, then he freaked out and started flying all over the room, it worried me so much and he was so tired after he stayed at the bottom of his cage (I had to hold him and put him inside) with his mouth open and his wings drooping, I’m not sure how I could prevent that next time

I hope you are feeling better now . Thank you for the video and the tips . I have difficulties to put my bird for bed time because he always knows from my gestures . Like changing the water in the cage, closing the curtain in the room, he flies away from me 😂 . And after I prepared everything I go get him . And I always have to force him ( grab him as gentle as I could, and he will bite even not a strong bite) . He always wants to play and don’t want to sleep, and I remember you said birds need good sleep .

Ps : great demon slayer shirt you’re wearing
