Toby pegged it in the last episode: she fell in love with a coping mechanism. That person is no longer there.
Kate didn’t have any confidence in herself when they met. Now, she just climbed a steep hill and went for the job. Which is something she might have never done pre Toby.
Neither of them could have made those changes if it wasn’t for the other. It’s a bittersweet situation. Their individual growth, grew them apart. It happens.

People seem to be worried the show isn’t going to wrap everything up right and that they’re dragging this out. I agree with how they’re dragging out Toby and Kates break up HOWEVER these writers have always done everything for a reason. Trust them, I wholeheartedly believe that they are going to end this show beautifully.

Its all so damn sad. They were in a horrible situation and they only blamed each other when they were both at fault. Kate is the kind of parent that thinks that noone can do better than her and Toby tries but he is looking for a confortable life Style where he gives Jack everything he needs.
Its really sad watching them try and try and nothing is good enough

On a whole other note, I'm all for Kevin and Madison finding their happy ending, but man does Elijah rub me the wrong way. There's something off about him. Everytime we do see him it's always awkward. We still haven't seen the side of Elijah to make us fall in love with him yet.

They are both so flawed but Kate has hated Toby because he lost the weight and she didn't. She told Beth that exact thing last Thanksgiving, When you resent someone else for your own failures, that is the beginning of the end.

I just wish Kevin and Randall stayed out of Kate and Toby's fight. I get they love their sister and they will forever be protective over her but sometimes you have to let husbands and wives fight on their own unless there is abuse going on. Them standing between Kate and Toby looked unhealthy to me.

Marriages begin, marriages end, new love forms. Through it all The Big Green Egg stands eternal.

My heart is in peaces for Katoby. All good things comes to an end and that is so hard to accept.

The thing that I love about this show, is that it is true to life in the sense of, relationships are complicated. It's easy to make Kate or Toby into the villains. But the reality is, they both have done things to contribute to the downfall of their relationship. Kate has treated Toby with contempt, criticism, and hasn't made an effort to take accountability for that. Toby made major decisions without Kate, and has acted defensively, and failed to see the capabilities of Jack. They both have done things. But neither of them are "good" or "bad." They're both doing the best they can, and they're just not on the same page. Which is the result of lack of proper communication and a long distance relationship. Toby has to be humble enough to get on the same page as Kate in parenting Jack, and listen to her knowledge and experience there. Every single predictor of divorce is there for them.

Just saw the episode.. Toby was literally begging Kate to give him another chance. Kate doesn't deserve Toby. Period. Every marriage has ups and downs. He shifted to LA, took up couples therapy. He did make the effort.

I hate what they did with Toby. They made him out to be the bad guy. He had no one in his corner. It was so heartbreaking to watch. Kate treats him like crap even in front of her family and wonders why he is so disgruntled. She is such a terrible person but the way they write it is as if those are good qualities. Like, ok, she finally stands up for herself, but now she's much more self-absorb as she was when she was a teenager. Toby has been trying his best and she yells at him every chance she gets.

Cried my soul out to 6x11 episode. This show has been so relatable since the beginning, moments or situations hits so close to home I can hardly not tear up. I truly I'm in disbelief watching Jack speak and acting...you can see, feel, live moments fully with the actors. Can't hope for a better show/life lessons.

In the last episode, Kate was unsustainable... Anything Toby said or did, she criticized him. And then she blamed him for Jack's accident... I hate what they're doing to this couple, or making it seem like Kate might be right in this situation. And now Toby is moving back to LA, bc he's probably the only one who's able to put in the effort of their marriage...

Reasons why I'm airing on the side of team Kate and why I believe Toby is more of the catalyst in this inevitable divorce than she is (They're both flawed but Toby's behavior has been bothering me more).
-Attempting to make unilateral decisions for the family (giving Kate an ultimatum)
-Never fully accepting Jack's blindness or being willing to be part of helping to accommodate him (shown when he was trying to find cures in the beginning, was unwilling to attend any blind kid conventions or activities, barely tried to help Jack with his cane at Thanksgiving, and is mocking the idea of using a song to help a blind TWO-YEAR-OLD navigate the world.
-Belittles Kate's job by saying it's just about singing with blind kids. Remember how big a deal it was when Randall did that to Beth when she started to teach dance??
-Used a lot of gaslighty language in this fight, "You need sleep" and "You're losing your mind". Trying to invalidate how Kate feels. Her feelings may be irrational but so are his so he has no right to demean her for that.
-Get way too defensive when Kate voices her feelings. Like when she said she missed the old Toby and he just mocked the notion of her imagining one.
-Victimizes himself when Kevin and Randall come to her defense. She is their sister, of course, they'll stand up for her. Toby was treated like a member of the Pearson family and Kevin and Randall accepted him as a brother but the choices he has made have made him an outsider. He is the reason why he is on the outs.

So few shows are perfectly cast, but this is one that is.

what irks me most about this show is the way madison's character's whole personality entirely changed almost as if the actress has played two different roles on this show and it was never acknowledged like we were not supposed to notice

Incredibly beautiful, touching and heartbreaking. One of my favorite shows ever! It's impossible to please everyone. Just relax and enjoy the final episodes!

Their foundation was built on making each other feel good about themselves because they were so insecure about their weight and they had nothing better to do than feed each other confidence. They never had their own identities. Kate even said she felt inadequate because Randall was smart and Kevin was talented. She followed Kevin to LA with no purpose and no idea of she was outside of being one of the big 3. Now she has finally found her calling and doesn’t wanna let go of her newfound confidence and identity. Toby was in the same boat and now he has found his calling and identity and he doesn’t wanna let it go. I’ll be happy when they get divorced honestly. They don’t need each other anymore

Knowing that this is ending has me anxious of how everything is going to be tied up. I want to know more about the future before the finale.
