Extreme Minimalist Living with NO FURNITURE & Very Few Possessions – 10 Year Journey

Alicia is an extreme minimalist living in San Diego, California. Over the past 10 years she has gone through many phases of decluttering and this is the simplest she's ever lived. She is furniture-free, so there is furniture in her apartment (no couch, no bed frame). Just a futon mattress on the floor and a folding chair on her balcony. She also has a minimalist wardrobe, all of her photos and documents have been digitized, and she lives without a TV, computer or wifi (she does have a cell phone).

You can follow and find out more about Alicia's ultra minimalist lifestyle here:

Being an ultra minimalist has allowed Alicia to make her home a calm sanctuary where she can recharge after working at her chaotic job. It allows her to spend more time practicing slow living, with time spent in nature, meditating, and listening to music.

By reducing her shopping and bills, minimalism has allowed Alicia to pay off her student loans, pay off her car, and set some money aside so that she has financial stability.

This lifestyle isn't for everyone, but Alicia has clearly put in a lot of time and thought into her decisions over the course of many years. And as she says in the video, this is not about deprivation or suffering. It's about finding the right balance, which is a personal journey for everyone. If she feels uncomfortable or misses something she has gotten rid of, she will welcome it back into her life.

This is a smart lady. She's investing in her most precious possession: her body, mind and time. I TOTALLY get where she's coming from. Good on ya! ❤

I am a 73 year old semi-minimalist who is a big fan of Alicia & her YouTube channel. She is authentic & totally non-judgmental of lifestyles different than her own. I admire her bravery in choosing to live a life so at odds with our consumer culture. She is a joyful breath of fresh air!

Cancer taught me that stuff doesn’t make you happy. It’s the quality of your relationships and your ability to appreciate experiences that truly bring you joy. Then again, I know what it is to be extremely poor, so I will also say that money won’t solve all problems, but it’ll solve a few.

Not sure why all the negative comments. No one is saying you have to live like this, so why criticise? She is just showing her lifestyle and is happy. Its interesting to see how others live even if it might not be how you personally want your life. It makes you realise that we can live with alot less things than we think and don't need to be constantly buying more stuff to make us happy.

I love that you guys brought her on your channel. not many people will understand this because they’re only used to people selling a romanticized idea of alternative living. vans and tiny houses that appear very cutesy and “aesthetic.” this woman is authentic and relatable. probably the most authentic person ive ever watched on youtube and she inspired me to re-think my consumption habits.

I am not an extreme minimalist, but I am definitely a minimalist by ANY North American standard. I can relate to much of what Alicia shared. Keep living the life that works best for you, dear Alicia, it is so beautiful. I am glad to know you're out there, fellow sojourner!

The first declutter people should do is get off instagram, Facebook and TikTok. That’s where the clutter begins in the mind, heart and soul while people feel the need to keep up with others they don’t even know. Constantly buying new things, having to make your home look perfect like a post card or a magazine picture. I swear, living like this frees your mind and soul. Of course the capitalists will hate you, but your heat and mind will love you. 99.99% of things we own we don’t need, it’s influenced by marketing and social media.
This lady found the answer within.

Been a sub to her channel since she only had a hundred followers - she's such a lovely soul. Treat her lifestyle like a recipe - take the bits you like and leave the bits out that you don't. She's inspirational ❤

She is clearly a very intelligent woman. With less comes immense freedom. I am learning that too

At the time I thought I was poor and lonely living in the barracks in San Diego, but it turns out I was actually practicing extreme minimalism!

Some people just don't understand how peaceful minimalism is for some of us. I've been watching her for some time and I've also been a minimalist for a handful of years (not extreme) but I always said if I lived alone I would be. It's so peaceful in my opinion. Love it, great video!

For anyone who really wants to know what Alicia is all about, please watch her video Minimalism: A Manifesto. It's truly one of the most beautiful and inspirational videos I've seen. I watch it at least once a month, not because I want to be a minimalist, but because I want to stay motivated to be a better person, to make better choices, and to just do better in this beautiful world that we all live in.

This lady is doing something smart IMHO. I didn't know it but i guess I'm a minimalist too.
I got rid of television in 2012. My laptop broke in 2015. I couldn't live without kitchen appliances etc. because I love cooking. There's nothing else in my house besides a bed and tools.
THANK you for this video. Your channel is the best of its type.

I always get so excited when a video by Alicia pops up. She is literally the best. Living an intentional life on her terms ❤

Having creative hobbies, most activities and passions, a tangible type of business or job will inevitably make this sort of lifestyle next to impossible...and so will living anywhere outside of major cities that requires some level of self-reliance to exist, aka tools, etc. However, it's quite ideal for an ultra monastic life, with a job that doesn't require owning anything related to it.
