In this video I go over the Pros and Cons of docking a dogs tail. Tail docking is a controversial topic similar to ear cropping. Cutting a dogs tail when they are puppies is common in certain breeds. Some people view it cruel and some think it’s okay. I go over 3 main benefits and negatives when you dock a dogs tail.

Since you asked...most people these days have no need to doc the dogs tail unless you use your dogs for herding, hunting or something of that nature. My personal opinion is that dogs are much prettier with tails.

So people often use the justification for cropping ears that wolves do not have floppy ears and cropping them helps them stand up like they naturally were supposed to. Let me then pose the question do wolves not have tails?

The Sweden argument was useless. Of course there was an increase in tail injuries once dogs got to keep them

It's not necessary... and yes it's cruel.

I wouldn’t remove a dogs tail ever for any reason and I’m pretty sure the wants to keep it’s tail i feel you just don’t decide that kind of thing for them

No need to dock a dogs tail/ears they are there for a reason. Owners tend to do this just for "looks" or to make them look "tough" it's a cosmetic thing not for the dogs needs but to satisfy the owner, dogs don't ask for it. Idc if cartilage or not still HURTS the dog & tends too bleed a lot. Owners coming up with excuses of less clean up hurting it's tail from wagging etc just to dock their dogs tail... Just accept the dog how it is they are perfect just as they are.

I loved my maltipoo puppy at first sight. I did not noticed the tail was missing until we got home. His tail looks like a peanut. 🤣🤣 He helped me through the pandemic. Never thought I would love him this much.

This topic will never have a right or wrong answer and everyone will continue to debate it even they were proven wrong, docking a dog's tail is no different than circumcising a human baby. No real medical advantage these days since most dogs just lie around or chase balls and sticks. You compared the docking argument to neutering and spaying pets but I think it better compares to the latter.

My arguments to why you shouldn't dock a dogs tail
1. Dogs use their tail to balance
2. Dogs use their tail to communicate
3. 99.9% of working dogs aren't doing heavy work or navigating thick vegetation
4. Saying "non working breeds injure their tail" is as foolish as saying "kids who ride bicycles get injured"
5. I have no problem with a dog NEEDING to get their tail docked for medical reasons
Overall great video, just vocal about my opinion :)

Puppy cant feel the pain of docking tail they said...
its the same like decades ago, some doctors telling people that doing heart surgery on baby without anesthetic is okay because baby cant feel the pain... and then other doctors do more research and the result is baby can feel the pain, now anesthetic is a must on baby surgery...

The fact that you say that there is no pain or discomfort just because their eyes aren't open yet, is in my opinion the same thing when people say that fish don't feel pain. Just because they can't make sounds that equal the damage you're causing them does not mean that they are not feeling the pain. This is similar to European and American cultures circumcising little boys basically as a standard issue. No mention that there are millions of highly sensitive nerve endings in that particular piece of flesh that they decide to chop off, because as long as it looks better in a social standing. I'm willing to bet that if a dog had the ability and the choice to choose it would decide to keep its tail.

Pros? None really. Don’t knock over things?

My dog injured his tail constantly and I wish I had cropped it because this is the main health issue he has that repeatedly causes his tail to bleed. He gets very happy and is always wagging his tail and banging or catching it on something

When I was 4 or 5 years old my mother took me to watch her stepmothers miniature poodles babies tails be docked. These babies screamed and suffered and it was horrific to watch as a young child. This poor little dog used to attack me every time I sat on her couch, I was only 5 but I understand why now.
