So what's the deal with the included 1.8mm silver spacer included with our Neo hubs? In this week's tech tip, Drew walks us through when the spacer is and isn't needed.

Thank you ! That was super helpful and explains it perfectly. Reading the solution somewhere did not explain it and i was still confused with all the hub / cassette combos and conversions, but this made perfect sense. And it turns out that the HG freehub replacement i have is from Stan's. ;-)

I'm trying to put what I believe is an 11 speed mtb cassette (11-36) on what I believe is an 11 speed shimano style freehub. My torque wrench doesn't fit my cassette tool, however, anything more than finger-tight and the cassette is too tight. Without the spacer, the cassette is obviously too loose. Do I need to try a 1mm spacer? I can't seem to find this info.

I am about to change my 11- 34 Shimano cassette 105 R7000 to an SLX CS M7000 11- 40 so before I swap them do I need to leave the 1.8 spacer on the hub with the 11-40. Are they the same width? I am guessing that if they are both 11 speed then they are both the same and would need the spacer fitted? The Cassette limit screws would have to be adjusted by 1.8mm.

So... basically if my Hub is designed to be 11 speed cassettes I would need a 1.8 mm spacer to fit 8 to 10 speed cassettes just to perfectly align it?

Removed 8 speed sun-race 11-34 and fitting an XT 11-40 cassette. Do I need the spacer? Specialized Diverge E5

SO...for example a SRAM PC1130 11-42 cassette (sold to me as part of a Rival 1x11 mechanical group) on a Shimano splined ROAD hub needs the 1.85 mm spacer placed inboard correct?

So this does not count for 11 speed cassettes on an XD driver body?

Thank you. I have struggled with XT and SLX cassettes on gravel bikes. I couldn't get the sprockets tight with 40NM. Just what I needed to know.
