I do hope the government does not help anyone deciding to live on areas where severe storms are rhe norm.
You want to live there, than you take the risk.

This sucks. Again, they need to fund physical infrastructure to pump away surge water and rainwater to reservoirs further inland and processing plants to distill it into a commodity to sell to places that need the water. Disasters like this happen basically every three years. Even knowing that, places like Florida give out 10 sandbags and the advice to just try to ride it out. This could have been a lot less severe. We know climate change is just going to continue to make these kinds of environmental disasters worse over time and we need to start prioritizing preventative measures that actually make a difference. Many places already have sewer systems and they already have drains in place to catch runoff from rain water to help reduce flooding. Why can’t pumps be installed in these same runoff systems to divert water to a reservoir further inland? Teams could be sent out to clear debris blocking the grates and manually turn the pumps on and off as needed. It could be a coordinated project to prevent flooding and handle the excess water as it comes in. It could be filter distilled where water is pushed through a series of filters to remove pollutants, and then it can be pumped to a reservoir for clean water to sell to surrounding areas as it’s available and as it’s needed. It’s crazy to think people’s lives are being risked and lost, and property damage and loss is happening, just because the people in charge of these areas aren’t doing anything about a known environmental threat that happens so regularly.
