Were You the Victim of a Security Breach?

1. Once you have confirmed the breach, you must secure your online accounts.

2. Update your passwords to be more secure.

3. Set up a password manager. Enable 2FA using an authenticator app.

4. File a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).

5. File a report with the police. A law enforcement report can also provide documentation to help you resolve the fraud.

6. Call your financial institutions and report the fraud. Call the affected companies and ask for the fraud department. Explain you are the victim of identity theft. You can usually reverse charges for credit card fraud and similar types of activity.

7. Freeze your credit and set up fraud alerts. Freezing your credit makes it harder for criminals to get access to your accounts or take out new credit in your name.
