3:39 - meant to say "regiment" not squadron
5:46 - I am told the artillery observation variant of the AMX-10P is no longer in service. When it was I believe it was only in the 40th Artillery Rgt, which is an SPG regiment, and the 1st Artillery which is a divisional MLRS regiment.

It's not about the numbers, it's about quality. From company structure to hardware, France have an understestimated (by the public) military power. What people fail to understand is that France army is not built to secure its territory or invade a country, it's an expedition force. It's built to project its power anywhere in the world at a fast pace with punch. That's why they maintain bases all around the world. French soldiers are recruited and trained like professionnals, not like meat. For its defense, France has one of the strongest and advanced nuclear capabilities.

I'm fascinated by the French army. For such a compact military they truelly have it all, and not as expensive as it could be. Super effective

Great video, as always!
Two things I'd like to point out:
- the AMX 10P artillery observation variant is not in service anymore
- the VAB artillery obervation variant is almost already phased out, as very few are still serviceable
Instead, AO teams usually dismount from regular infantry VABs when deployed in combat zones

These vehicles will be replaced as followed:
- Serval AO variants will be put into service with the 11th Airborne brigade and the 27th Mountain brigade.
AO teams would dismount from these vehicles.
- Griffon AO variants will be put into service with the 2nd and 7th Armored brigades.
These ones will be equipped with observation equipment and will not require AO teams to dismount.

Regarding the 6th and 9th Amphibious brigades, I can't tell for sure which variant they are supposes to be equipped with.

The French have superb land, sea and air forces and furthermore all their state of the art hardware and equipment is made in France: hi-tech aircraft, warships, tanks, artillery and nuclear submarines. France is a very formidable military power, a fact which tends to be ignored in Anglo-Saxon countries which seem to believe that because France (and the UK) were defeated (and France occupied) by the Nazis in 1940, the French are weak. After the USA, France may well have the most powerful and skilful military in the Western world.

France is unique. Without her, our world would lack a lot of amazing things.

Always a very good video about France. Thanks for your amazing work ! However, I remind you that the French army is in the process of replacing its VABs with VBMR (Griffon), or VBMR-Léger (Serval). The operational regiments have priority, but the VABs are disappearing completely. In 2030 there will be none left. Currently there are about 400 VBMR Griffons delivered, and they have already experienced fire in Mali, before France evacuated the country. The VBL will also be replaced eventually, but no choice has yet been made. A modernization has been done meanwhile in 2018-2020, to extend its operational life. The French Army is in full transition and in complete modernization until 2030. All the vectors of the army are being replaced, modernized or in the process of being replaced. This will undoubtedly impact the tactical organization of the regiments.

Keep up the good work, you're great!
Greetings from France 🇫🇷

France is the true European Superpower, if Germany is the Money, France is the Muscle, and they have the military to back it up as well, despite their disfunction at home, you've gotta be impressed with the punch they can pack!

a little visual thing, but the Armour regiments of the French army doesn't use gold (or yellow) rank stripes, only silver
gold is the colour of the "on foot" units (infantry, signals, sappers, artillery and army light aviation)
while silver is that of the units "on horse" (cavalry, train, materiel, chasseurs)

the tank regiments, being part of cavalry use silver stripes (same reason their Sergeants are called Marechal Des Logis)

fun fact : at the beginning of WW2, France used the somua S35 medium tank (by comparison to a German tank of that time, it was a heavy tank with the same speed as a medium tank).
This tank only had 3 crew members, unlike lots of more "modern designs". Instead, the French engineers had equipped it with an electrical reloading system.

French Army and auto-loading have a long lasting friendship...

Today, some Germans and French industrials are working on potential prototypes for a franco-german "new european MBT", and one thing they are sure about is that they want to use the french reloading philosophy in a german-sized tank, so that they can have a 4th crew member who is not required for manning the tank and is only here to control drones (both combat and recon) and ground-to-air suicide-drones.
